Been thinking about Cogman over breakfast: My "concerns" The name I'm all for original movie characters, but is cogman really his name? It's sounds dumb in any accent i can do. I know all Transformers names are dumb, but they always.. usually work some way. This name was given by someone who only understood the dumb part (i'm not even gonna mention the new cons names.) I'm still hoping it's a placeholder. The personality Was talking the other day here about Sunstreaker, and how most of the Autobots have his personality. Well once again, welcome: another sociopath/psychopath autobot. Seriously, no wonder the humans are still indiscriminately hunting all cybertronians, there's not much to discriminate between them! Other thoughts Headmaster I guess the cg suit woman we saw is his head then. I wonder, is Cogman a traditional headmaster or is the car portion a transector? Is he really going to be Chromedome? Let's hope. More to come, if this thread doesn't bomb like most of mine do
I think this thread is well thought out Livingdeaddan, and nobody else has responded, so I'll give you a response! I chose "Wait and See!" Honestly, I think that's the only answer I could pick. I need to watch the film before I decide whether I like him or not. I will admit that before I heard these details I was incredibly "meh" on the reveal of a Transformer with a British accent who transformed into an Aston Martin. However, I actually found these details interesting to say the least. I personally admit to greatly preferring the antisocial, lone warrior type Autobots who don't get along with many of their comrades to, say, the Rescue Bots or Prime Autobots or the 2007 Autobots. I just find them more relatable and fun and interesting as characters in the particular context of the films. I think the wars are a big part of who they are at this point in time. That's not to say I don't love some less war-like characters like Beachcomber and Cosmos and what not. Those are also some favorites of mine from G1. Also, polite and psychopathic is not exactly a combination of traits we have seen so far because most of the Autobots who were kind of jerks were not particularly polite either. On the other hand the characters who were polite were not really psychopaths, so it really depends on how Cogman's character is portrayed in the film itself. I will admit the name is not my very favorite, but if he is cool on-screen I can live with it. And getting a Headmaster in live action is pretty damn cool. I'm just glad that it sounds like the head turns into a smaller robot and not an organic being in a cyborg suit. I do not like the idea of humans or Nebulans becoming the heads of Transformers in live action. In the end, it all depends on how Cogman is shown in the film. I certainly hope he is a fun character at the very least.
And all I can think of is why did you censor the thread title. Is it, though? The first critical note is that the name sounds "dumb" with no elaboration past "it's dumb." The second point is basing purely off a description with no actual substantial evidence since, y'know, the movie isn't out yet and we haven't seen any scenes or clips of the character. The third point isn't even a criticism, and in fact goes against the very nature of the thread title, as a Headmaster is one of the few concepts we haven't seen in the TF movies, in any way, so it's not the same old shit at all. So, yeah, not to sound harsh but I'm not surprised this thread never took off. Because it is, itself, the same old "s***" the movie forum is filled with.
I'm not going to lie, I've seen a lot of really, really crappy comments in recent days, so in comparison stuff like this is considerably better. Either way, I'm completely open-minded. The character could go either way given the film is not out yet and has not even appeared in any trailers or advertisements.
Thanks mate! I'd forgotten i started this Yeah, I'm not saying either way really, i'm just going by what Bay was quoted saying about him. He could well be exactly what i'm "worried" about, yet be so bad ass that I end up not caring anyway. I like them too, but they need to be outside of a tight group to be defined in that way. Unless the AOE team have really settled their deferences between movies, i don't know how he'll stand out. When i read that i think Hannibal Lector.. you don't think Hopkins is the head master?! Force of habit, I got kids so I usually censor hiーvis expletives, I don't have to, look: Fuck fukkity fuckfuck fuck. But thanks for thinking about it. How do you elaborate past that? I think it sounds dumb, the sound, the meaning of the words, the imagery it invokes. It doesn't sound cool in the context of Transformers. I say it out loud, it doesn't sound good. If you think it sounds good, then please show me how you'd elaborate. Same old shit and other thoughts. This was an other thought. Well... you might be right, i have to be honest i don't really identify very well what threads might take off. But thanks for the review. I'm as open minded as I can be. My issues with the previous movies haven't gone away so it would be foolish of me to expect this film will be perfect. My fingers are perpetually crossed, and i know it will at least be a fun cinema visit, but the information about cogman, apart from the headmasterness, sounded like it was walking down well trodden paths character wise, which gives me less reason to expect other elements that need changing, won't! Anyway thanks for reply Galvatross!
To me the name seems to be the play on the word conman. About the headmaster. The mo-cap actress seems to be accompanying Anthony Hopkin's character and if I do remember correctly she was with him in that red McLaren on the set photos. So are we really sure that Cogman the headmaster is the silver Aston Martin? There's an information dissonance somewhere. I think that the headmaster will be a butler/driver of Edmund Burton's. Similarly, Hot Rod, who is supposed to be a Citroen in the beginning, was tasked with protecting Vivian Wembley. On the side note, Vivien in Arthurian legends is one of the names of the Lady of the Lake. She was supposed to trick Merlin into teaching her magic and than turned him into a tree
... Wow. So... Laura Haddock. Vivian. The Lady Of The Lake. Merlin. Excalibur. #ItsAllConnected Sorry. Couldn't resist. Yeah, I could see the headmaster concept work in a way in the TFCU/Movie-Verse.
Name wise, I'm not a fan of 'Cogman' too, and I'm similarly hoping it's just a placeholder. No doubt, some Transformers names aren't all that brilliant, but I'd prefer something like Trailbreaker or Streetwise over a Cogman, even if it has absolutely no relation to the G1 equivalent. For his personality, I'm intrigued. I can relate more to good guys that aren't always purely good. Headmaster? Oh yes! Masterforce is my 2nd favourite series, and I liked how humans were intertwined with the robots. Am keen to see how it turns out.
This Headmaster sounds like it'll be based on the TFA version, which was a robot head that could attach itself to tech and control it. This would only work if the cars had some electronic gear in them for the robot to control and manipulate (an automated system, etc), which is the current state of automobiles today. It sounds like a great update from having humans and robots fuse together, or having plates of armor lying around that could be summoned to form a robot body. It should be awesome to see onscreen.
From the reports we got he is able to become the head of any Transformers (after theirs has been removed, hello Optimus) so it's possible they're both bodies he can use.
From one of the reports, I can't remember which site it was from. I'm pretty sure I didn't just dream it lol
ahh i see, yeah actually i read that, but it seems bay talks like he edits movies together, so the meaning did go over my head! (gotta work on those Drax reflexes @CKPRIME ) but yeah, that seems exactly like the Animated Headmaster!
