Not sure what so many in this thread are threatened, agitated, and offended by the term "kidult". That reaction is absurd IMO.

I'm 45 years old and I wear it like a badge of honor. I think it's pretty cool.

I don't think anybody is seriously offended by it. It's somewhat tongue-in-cheek because it's a bad, awkward, lazy word.

Hasbro has acknowledged for years now that adult collectors are a significant part of their sales, but nowhere near a majority. As someone also collecting in the Star Wars and GI Joe groups for decades now, Hasbro did an about face on this at least a decade ago. Prior to that, there was the age-old claim that they didn't recognize adult collectors as a significant part of their sales at all.

And yes, this article certainly tries hard to make ''kidult'' a thing.

The implication of "kidult" is one of an adult who needs supervision as a child would. That's probably the most offensive part of the term and why I hope it fails to gain traction.

Adult toy collectors is the proper term. But that won't score social media points.

    Sir, this is an Arby's.

"At least one" is an interesting way to phrase it, as that's really not all that significant considering the abundance of toys bought in general. If that's all it takes to be counted among the adult toy buying public then that quarter is even less impressive than it originally sounded.

Right. It's just a dumb sounding word trying to turn an already established thing (adults who collect shit) and turn it in to a marketing gimmick specifically for toys. But it's not a good word.

I'm not offended, I just wish it rolled off the tounge better than badong or gnodab.

I've heard it most often mentioned as "boys who can shave" more recently.

Which, again, is generally accurate, from my experience.

If anything, the article seems to use it i na way that suggests "kidult" would get adopted as a trendy term but the problem is nobody who'd go by it wants to do that.
