I'm getting a dot hack / Slayers mixed with groo the wanderer type of vibe from this shows images and shorts. Hope it's good. Cartoon Network Expands Interactive Property 'Mighty Magiswords' With A TV Series
Definitely interested. Better than a lot of the crap CN has put out lately (Clarence, Uncle Grandpa, Gumball)
Be interesting if they can carry this as a full show, the shorts work fine, seen a few of them on boomerang, and if they can keep up the writing quality, they could have something good.
Actually they are making this a full show. It'll start airing around the 29th this month so looking forward to this. Vambre's already my favorite character here.
I haven't seen any of this show but the main female characters looks a lot like Lina Inverse and Naga the Serpent fused together.
Now I haven't watched it, but I'm so bored with these generic type of designs Cartoon Network has been doing with all of their shows. Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Rick & Morty, Regular Show, and whatever other million of other shows they have done in the last few years just look so generic in animation designs. They all look ike some third grader designed them.
I'd honestly have to agree. I have a friend who enjoys SU, but I just do not care for the art style. ...and yet I will admit this show does look kinda interesting...
Sometimes judging a show by their art style alone can only take you so far before making judgement. You need to learn to get past that because while the series may not be aces when it comes to design the rest like the writing certainly can make up for it. After all people didn't think much with shows like TF Animated,TMNT 2012,and Steven Universe because of the art style but once you looked past it,they really do offer something amazing.
Speaking of TFA, there's also a bunch of TF voice actors who voice on this show, including Tom Kenny (TFA Starscream), Jeff Bennett (TFA Prowl), Townsend Coleman (TFA Sentinel), Eric Bauza (RID '15 Drift), Jess Harnell (Movie Ironhide), Phil LaMarr (TFA Jazz), and even Weird Al Yankovic! There's even Johnny Yong Bosch and Paul Schrier from MMPR!
It's not that, it's just that every show CN is doing looks like that these days. Even the new PPG looks like this. I'm all for different styles of animation, but not when a million series are using it.
I'm going to have to agree with this. Sort of. Like, I don't feel like the character designs in this show or in Steven Universe are generic, BUT, the general art style is way overused. I think it works for a show like Steven Universe, because there's effort in the animation, it seems like the people working on it actually care. And they do. This show seems to try something different visually, compared to the others at least, but...It's lacking in a lot of ways. I kind of wonder what happened that got every animator under the sun going for these styles. Was it an attempt to cash in on the success of Adventure Time and Regular Show, without understanding why they were successful? It's particularly odd with this show. These characters look like they're designed for exaggerated movements and angles, but then they just seem kind of...Flat. Not as flat as the PPG Reboot, but flat nonetheless.
They're acclaimed for their humor, storytelling, and character portrayals. None of that means the art style is necessarily good That style just doesn't work for some people, and makes it hard to want to get into the show. If it works for you, that's great! But there's no sense in being critical of anyone who's put off by it.
