With Cloverfield set to be released in theatres this Friday, my sister and I were planning to watch the movie. Marcus Theatre is the only venue in Green Bay releasing current movies. All other venues specialize in re-running older movies for a discount. I found out the Marcus Theatre will NOT be showing Cloverfield at least in NE Wisconsin. I don't know if this affects the entire state of Wisconsin. When I called them, they told me the negotiations with the production company to show the movie soured. So Northeast Wisconsin market will not have an chance to see Cloverfield at all. I don't know if other markets are affected, but I'd suggest if you have Marcus Theatre in your community; call first before making the trip.
All Marcus theaters, nation wide, were unable to get that movie. If I wanted to see that movie, which I don't, I would have to travel about a half hour to see it.
I'm sorry to hear that, Devastor001. I do hope you and your sister will have a chance to go see Cloverfield soon, despite the Marcus Theater not showing it.
Devastator, you'll have to drive a little (1 hour, 45 minutes), but Roger's Cinema in New London will be playing it: http://www.rogerscinema.com/showtimes/NEW_LONDON_SHOWTIMES.htm Hell, did one better. Shawano: http://www.shawanocinema.com/ I am confused about their 1,2,3,4. Perhaps a phone call is in order? Just looking in the wrong places I guess.
Same type of bullshit happened to me here. Not one theater in MONTANA showed Grindhouse and nothing near me (i.e within 200 miles) showed The Mist. I hate when this crap happens.
Thank you all for the help. My sister and I found one in Appleton, unbeknownst to Shawano showing it as well. I think its better to view it Appleton. It's not very often we go there and perhaps we can find the Buffalo Wing Restaurant to try out their wings while in town. I had some when I lived in Tucson and they were good. I had thought about it and decided against that. I wouldn't know where to start. This situation was rather foreign to me [All this negotiations to secure a copy of the movie in order to show them in the theatres]. This was the first time I've heard of this and didn't realize it has been rather frequent in denying people a chance to view the movie wherever it may be. In this day in age, the need for greed will seem to out trump the consumers' want to view. I hope this the first and last time I encounter this. I also hope this trend doesn't become an all too common situation for movie theatres and consumers across this country.
You dodged a bullet there, buddy. That's weird, I always thought of America as being this culturally homogeneous group where everybody watched the same movies and tv shows. My mind is kind of blown right now.
I don't know what's worse, having to drive 30. 60 or even 100 miles to see a movie, or have a movie open in my own town and pulled before i could leave the parking lot. since the 80's, my town has had that kind of problem. no one, NO ONE wanted to screen The Last Temptation of Christ, even though it sucked so bad that it doomed itself (IMHO), Clerks. Don't know why on that one. Heck, i went on opening night to see DOGMA and i spoke with the theater owner ( my mom went to high school with him) as he served me at the snack counter and he told me he was pulling it after the 7 pm showing. hassled by the bible thumpers. Devil's Rejects....MIA. We never got Grindhouse either. Shoot em up was shown 30 miles away. I feel your frustration. pardon my ignorance, but is Montana really as empty as i have been lead to believe? hope not. peace.
In Madison, The only theater showing it is Star Cinema. Marcus better get hip to the game. What's going to Happen when Iron Man hits?
Good lord do you live in some mutant version of the town from Footloose? I have never heard of movies actualy being pulled or not shown cause of bible thumpers. Movie wise this is the secound time I have heard that Wisconson sucks.
This makes me appreciate that there are at least 10 different theatres, at least 6 of them different chains, within a twenty minute drive. Never seen any of the theatres that actually show movies when they first come out fail to get a big release though. Crazy.
For one of the largest states in the union, it only has about 850,000 last i remembered. I actually live in one of the more populated areas, except that Helena is in a valley between moutains and the nearest large towns are 40, 90, and farther miles away.
Can't say that i have, but during the summer Helena has live music every week at somethin similar to a block party, can't remember the name, and if they're here, they've probably played it. Lots of fun, but my old job interfered in my going most of the time. I plan to change that this year
