Yup, some transformations you really can't quite change too much if you're keeping the same form and look.

This thing is long gone now isn't it? I think maybe the clear version might still be available?

It wasn't really unfair though. It's basically a straight re-shell of Fanstoys Quakewave's engineering with an essentially identical, not just similar, transformation. The inside out barrel cover/backpack is even straight copied from Quakewave. The official MP transformation is just "similar" though, that's true.

But I don't care... I love my Quakeblast and don't care how it was made- I'm just glad it exists!

A re-shell would imply that some of the underlying parts share a common manufacture.... to the best of my knowledge, the FT and C9 Shockwaves share zero parts commonality

Exact same engineering, but all new parts is how I meant it. They straight copied how Quakewave works was my point. Sorry if it didn't make sense how I worded it.

If it works, use it I say! They stood on FTs shoulders and made a better product.

I never understood the argument about 2 companies using the similar engineering. Is the point of the argument to put down one figure as inferior? It seems like something people do when feeling insecure. Not trying to call anyone out. I just have heard this argument a lot.

It's not just similar engineering though. It's a straight up use of the exact engineering that someone else developed for your own purposes in this case. New molds and parts, yes, but they didn't have to figure out how to make it transform/work is the overall point I guess. Saves development costs by stealing the design someone else created. That's why it is a point of discussion I guess.

In this case though it's also been rumored/reported that the designer of Quakewave went to work for Gigapower and that that's how Quakeblast came about. On that note it was reported that Fanstoys may have threatened some vendors if they carried Quakeblast which also possibly lends credence to this story and overarching point- that the design engineering was essentially copied/stolen and reused for the new figure. Or simply a case of same designer so same engineering and Fanstoys wasn't happy about it?

Anyhoo, I love BOTH figures in all honesty! We all win, lol.

Yeah. Both have pros and cons but in the end both are nice and come off as different takes on the character due to the way each looks. I kept both myself- though I upgraded my first release Quakeblast with the chrome parts from the black release along with different led's.

It was ages ago, but I seem to remember someone from FT stating that they were hacked shortly before the announcement of this fig.

If it's the same designer, then it's not copying, it's refining.

I own 2 copies of each release of the QuakeBlast; just in case of an emergency.
FansToys is good too... since they started the 3rd MP revolution of with FT-02. I still own the original and the darker release, and the Crystal of the Quakewave. Never could get the blak radioshack version.
However, I lean toward the Quakeblast (obviously since I doubled down). I like him better because of the size and IDW look. Both are good but I like the design and look of Quakeblast more.
Plus FansToys should of tightened up that waist with a ratchet.

Whatever the case Quakeblast is the Shockwave of choice for me. I still need to get my grubby mitts on a black and gold version! :ev:

I forgot what a stunner this guy is. That polished die-cast makes all the difference. I guess I need to find some batteries 20210312_100656.jpg
