On set photos. The robot suit thing will be replaced with almost as scary cg! Here is the cg version.
Rather than cute, timeless cartoons and drawings that appeal to a child’s imagination and creativity, all kids today are going to grow up with horrendous CGI demons that look dated by the time the movies even come out.
Man, I loved Clifford when I was very little. He and Thomas were my too big things, and I watched the Magic Railroad more times then I could count. Hell, I still listen to the score a lot. I wish this could have the same sort of magic that movie did, but it’s been two decades and I know it won’t.
Well after clifford it's curious georges turn as universal wants to do a live action film. Of course both curious george and clifford had big screen animated films as well.
I really liked the show as a kid. It was a fun, wholesome, feelgood entertainment. My family didn't have television growing up, so I mostly associate Clifford with staying in hotels, or maybe the occasional library VHS rental. Not something I watched all the time, but seeing it was an enjoyable experience. I don't really think we need a movie, but I'll probably end up watching it, just because of the nostalgic connection. I just hope it keeps the same tone and feel, they don't need to make it edgy or more adult or anything. I do feel like Clifford looks too small. Like, I recall him being massive. He was almost as big as a house. This looks about the size of a horse. I guess he could be a puppy here, or maybe they just wanted to downscale him for story practicality. As long as the design looks cute, it shouldn't be a problem though. As far as nostalgic cartoon adaptations go, I'd legitimately like to see a Magic School Bus live-action movie. They could make the bus some kind of Transformer-esque thing, and make the whole thing some kind of epic adventure. I could see that lending itself to a fun live-action film. There's a lot of potential there.
I've seen that CG photo before. Probably about a month or so ago. I said it then, and I'll say it now. Clifford looks like he's about to gobble the girl up in one bite.
Everyone's talking about the prop and not looking at the final version. Which is bound to be photo-realistic, but only in the sense that it's a giant dog, and dogs are still adorable creatures IMO. Still, CGI doesn't always work out. Look how awesome this giant creature is.
Well, that really depends on how they do it. Because the Jungle Emperor remake-remake was 'photo-realistic' and those were creepy as all hell, with their all zombie telepathic words and what not. Plus, there is the way 'dogs' looked in Twilight.
Should we compare a werewolf to a spaniel? The test will be how friendly this dog will look. Also, the Jungle Book would be a better comparison because that was less technical and more emotional.
Honestly, I think downsizing Clifford is okay if only because of the sheer logistical impossibility that would be trying to take care of a dog the size of a suburban house. The books and cartoons could get away with it because, well, they're cartoons and by default have the ability to waive away that kind of thing, but go into realism and people aren't as inclined to look the other way. That said? Clifford absolutely should have just been a CGI film in full to maintain the cartoon aspect. Something like the psuedo-realistic CGI from Polar Express would have been ideal. I get the feeling they'd not handle the Bus right simply because it's a little too "Herbie" esque with it quite blatantly being a semi-sentient machine (with eyes and sometimes a mouth and tongue!) and the fact it shows non-verbal personality at times.
No, I mean, we should not forget that Hollywood makes poor decisions. And, remember the same people who did Lion King made Jungle Book. So, if that's your standards, remember Lion King came out AFTER it and made way more billions. So, that has set the standard for Hollywood. So, I'd expect more of that, and less of Jungle Book. Also, watching that clip has reminded me that they are also creepy in the Jungle Book movie too. Just not as creepy as the animals are in the Lion King. But, still overly creepy.
I mean, I guess...? The CG in that image definitely doesn't look as horrible as the early Sonic design, but I guess we'll have to wait and see... Still kinda uncanny. I loved the books and cartoon as a kid, super nostalgic, and I wouldn't be opposed to them making a live action adaption, so I'll keep an eye on this. Hope it turns out well, it could be cute.
