Cool. First time I've seen pictures of Astrotrain. Would be cool to see Hasbro release the same, or similar, deco over here as a store exclusive or something under the new Universe line.

I have no problem with the Hasbro Astrotrain, but that is by far the most appealing of the Takara releases. If I had money I might consider the double dip on this one, and I cant say that about any of the others

Would be perfect if they left off the white.

The white bits are growing on me. I have to agree with Abrogate, I'm happy with my Hasbro version, but if any of the Japanese Classics can tempt me, it's this one.

Hmm, I didn't even notice those yellow highlights on the front of the train earlier. Not as if it helps match the colour scheme; I still think that segment should be gray instead of white.

Even more so than Megatron? I doubt it.

Megatron would be great if he was all chrome. But the "randomly placed chrome + milky translucent plastic" looks really cheap ass. The color scheme is right, but the execution isnt

Just not feeling it. I'll stick with my Hasbro one. It looks far more like the Astrotrain I had as a kid, than this does.

Now that you mention it, where is the chrome on Astrotrain? I thought that was the common factor in this line.

His chrome is on the shuttle thrusters. It wasn't easy to tell in the previous image - a blurred scan from one of those Japanese order sheets - but these shots confirm it.

That looks fantastic... white stripes and all. I love that the face is painted creepy-white, too, instead of silver. (Although the white train parts DO make it all the more obvious that his shuttle mode is wearing a couple of train-halves... ah well, no biggie.)

I never had a problem with the Hasbro version, but I do prefer this version. It just feels more like Astrotrain to me. Takara hit a home run on this one.

I don't, Megatron's chrome (if it even is chrome/vacuum metal) is spaced sparsely and just doesn't seem to mesh well with regular old gray/silver plastic. Same goes for Grimlock, they shouldn't've just made part of his neck/legs chrome if that's all they were going to do, chrome it all up or don't bother TakTom :/

I would actually consider this an almost nice enough difference from the Hasbro version to buy, almost. I was never a huge fan of this guy but he does look really good in those colors
