Hey guys, I just got (well, a week or 2 ago) a "junker" lot (so the guy that was selling it thought). It's got a complete PM Op, but the guy's roommate smoked, and said toy is now more yellow and orange than white/grey/red. Can I get some suggestions for fixing this?
The yellowing on the white parts may just be a sort of 'film' rather than a chemical reaction. Perhaps try rubbing it with a not too strong detergent?? If that doesen't work, perhaps a fine grit (say 1000 or finer) sandpaper and take it slowly. What you said about the orange - is that on the white and grey parts or on some of the red parts?? If it's red, I'm wondering if that's fading.
I heard somewhere that whitening toothpaste sometimes works on white, don't have any ideas for the red though.
there's not much you can do. It sounds like the plastic is chemically altered from the smoke. I've noticed the same thing with my powermaster optimus prime and I don't smoke. I think its the plastic they used. It just looks dull next to even the original '84 line. If you want to get a G-1 style powermaster optimus prime then go for the Ginria reissue. His cab is metal.
That's what I've been wanting to do. Only reason I wanted to clean this one at all is that I got it for dirt cheap (got in in a lot of stuff for $50, and I can sell most of it that I don't want for a good $300 after cleaning and repairing). I like the chrome on the reissue better anyway
I have found that Mr Clean Magic Eraser removes SOME yellowing. However it will eat the colouring off decals, so be careful.
I've also heard good things about Goo Gone for removing the yellowing caused by smoking. Oh, and there are no reprolabels available for PMOP. IF you do find a set, let me know where. I need some too.
idk how it works on plastics, but I found this stuff called no more yellow, its supposed to take and remove all the calcium and rust from white clothes, you could try that too... but experiment on it first, so that way you dont ruin the figure.
