Thanks. I still can't fathom how many people never got him the last time. I remember TRU having wire bins full of both him and the repaint for 5 bucks a piece because they couldn't get rid of him... Now I wish I had bought a bunch... Chris
Considering that the current target market was 1-3 years old the last time he was out, I'd say there are ample potential customers for the TFU release.
For $49.99 I think it is worth it. The box is larger than Ultimate Bumblebee (huge!). It is hard to find a MISB Armada Unicron for that price elsewhere now. I bought one at the Alhambra Toys R Us and it looks cool.
Movie release = more Transformers fans = 5 years after initial release = potential money gold mine. No different than if Hasbro had brought Fortress Maximus back out a few years after his initial release in 87.
Yeah- I'm gonna be someone who picks up Unicron, if he comes up to Canada. Dunno when, but I do want Unicron as a counterpart to my Primus.
Picked him up today at my tru. review and gallery is now up http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...ew-gallery-classics-universe-2-0-unicron.html
Honestly, if I would have seen him for $5, I would have gotten him. If I somehow see him marked down for that much now, I'll definetly grab at least one, if not more for kitbashing gestalts with. I usually don't do this, but I might take my chances and wait for his price to go down a bit when the clearance him, and then get him. Though knowing how reliable the closest TRU is, I'd be lucky to find him at his regular price (still a little sad that I never did see the Soundwave reissue in-person, as I would have bought him).
As others have mentioned, it's been several years since the original was released and, as demonstrated in this and other threads, a lot of people missed getting it then. There's also the Movie bringing older fans back, or bringing in new fans who might have some memory of the animated TF movie, who would love a Unicron figure. As for TRU wanting it as an exclusive, part of the reason they didn't sell very quickly last time is that every store had these. People could get them at Wal-Mart, Target, TRU or any of a number of other chains, so the potential market was diluted out over multiple stores. Now, there's a potential market for Unicron again and all that market will be concentrated on TRU, since they're the only ones who have the figure.
Could've potentially been an even bigger gold mine if they'd simply repainted it, like they have every other freaking TF in existance. As someone who already owns both the regular Armada and black Energon versions, they would've gotten a 3rd sale out of me at regular price. As it stands now, I may pick one up for a MISB display piece(nice packaging this time) one it goes on clearance again.
Yeah, if it had been repainted with some really good G1 Movie looking paint apps, it'd have gotten another sale out of me, too, as well as all of the people who missed him the first time. Chris
Hopefully he goes on clearance because I really want one but, I can't afford $50 anytime soon. I missed out on the first two so I'll be pretty upset if I miss out on this one too. How long do you think it'll take before he goes on clearance? Any predictions? Before Xmas? During Xmas? or way after Xmas? I hope he goes on clearance for extremely cheap on the TRU website just like the $7 G1 Reissue TRU Exclusive Soundwaves. (I missed out on that one too.)
A. Some people will wait for it to go on clearance like last time, because (sarcasm power on) they shouldn't have to pay full price for anything over ten bucks- and five dollars is still too much for those people. They 'deserve' it for free. (sarcasm power off) B. Some people didn't have the money then. C. Some fans were either not born yet, or, not old enough to play with such intricate, complex toys.
$7?!?!?! Never seen anything like that. How long does TRU normally wait to clearence stuff? I def want him and I've paid full $$ for the other stuff I've got from TRU.
I ended up getting my original Unicron for full price at Toys R Us when he first came out. And then, about 2 months later, I saw another one for $8.99 on clearance at Target! Gah! I'm expecting the same here.
i would like to correct the title of this thread. This is for a Universe Unicron, Armada Series, not Classics Unicron.
when i got my armada unicron...it was 50% off....$24.99.....that was on some super clearance special at TRU...they had legions of normal and energon unicron black repaints....i passed on the black one and ended up paying 3X that amount to get him later...so i have never seen a $7 clearance unicron either....I really do wish they would redo a black unicron or a different variant repaint....i would have loved a greenish tint one or a G1 based one like others have voiced....seems like a complete waste to do a straight carbon copy..... Unless unicron is going to be in the third TF movie and we are going to be beat down with another insectoid based TF movie degraded crap mold like most of the others have been.....
Toys R Us's website is now listing the Unicron toy, but "temporarily not available online." Transformers Armada Unicron - Hasbro - Toys "R" Us I signed up for the email notifiction for when it becomes available online, if I don't find it in a store first.
