***Edit, 7/23, finished!*** So, WAY back when pics of Drift first came out, I wanted to repaint him into Boss. Always liked Boss's design, and the Drift toy definitely shared some of that. Then came word we'd be getting a Turbomaster from Botcon, even better. Then I saw Blurr..pretty much the same color as Boss, guess Boss will be a different blue, oh well. I've swapped the lower legs at the knee, and modded them so they still bend. Waist rotation was added as well. I cut off Drift's feet, and those panels now become Boss' heals, new feet were built up for Boss. Boss's turbine weapon was built using the lens section from the camcorder Real Gear Robot from the 2007 movie, a piece from a jet model kit, and some styrene. It plugs into two triaglular holes inside the hood, which just happened to be there already. Drift's was cut down, and styrene added to build the new head. After I'd completely repainted and reassembled the figure, I decided the hood just looked too plain in light blue, and didn't mesh too well with the turbine in the front end. So I added some styrene bits, and repainted it to better evoke the original Boss hood. Boss is painted in a metallic light blue (mixed from Tamiya Metallic Blue, Silver, and a bit of grey) and Model Master Blue Angel Blue. Other colors include Clear Red, Chrome Yellow, a custom metallic grey and silver. Boss's stripes are gold vinyl striping. Thanks for looking!
why not instead of blue, how bout you use Green? and maybe you should give him a visor later. other then that, love the progress.
Would WFC Prime's head fit on this chap? Nice leg mod, makes him good and beefy. What did you make the cannon from? Alt mode is so spot on!
This looks . . . boss! As with your other projects, I'm pretty excited to see how this one turns out. I think you'll do this character just as much justice as you've done to other characters with your work.
Great Idea, I had the same one. it's going great, but I really think you should switch heads with a prime figure, or at least add a mouthplate. Also, have you thought of painting the windows bright pink? regarding the feed mod, how did you pull it off? and where did that turbine came from?
Nice work so far, man. As for the questions on how he did the feet (and he can correct me if I'm wrong).....the current Drift feet look cut out, while the backside of the old feet remains in place (the thin white "heel" piece. He mentioned that the waist swivels now and from the looks of it, he unscrewed and swapped the legs at the knees. That way when it transforms, he can turn the waist and the transformation should still be good to go. It also looks like he added some small feet pieces to the new leg fronts. I guess it's a little easier to spot when you have a Drift in-hand and can compare. Keep up the great work!
Definitely not green. I've thinking a metallic blue. Pretty much dead on! I removed the big kneepads(thanks for making those a seperate piece Hasbro!) and had to cut the leg to allow the knee to bend "backwards" The cannon body is from the camcorder Real Gear Robot...he was murdered just for this The turbine is from a VF-0 Macross kit. I think I'm going with clear red for the windows...just not a fan of the pink. Oh of course he's getting a new head! And here it is
This looks freaken sweet!! I still have one more question about the wepon. The main body of it came from the camcorder guy but what about the turbine on the fron and the conectors on the sides? You custom make those of you find them somewere else?
Got the main colors painted today. Painting details now, and will add some kind of stripes to the vehicle mode once the paint is fully dry.
Looking great, Jarrod! The colors look sweet on him. Did you brush, airbrush, or spray it? Beautiful work so far and I'm looking forward to seeing more on it.
he looks great. Honestly, I'm surprised at the mileage people seem to be getting out of this mold. At first glance he seems like a really cool figure, but almost useless as a fodder choice because of his uniqueness. Guess that tells you something about first glances.
awesome work man, I'd been thinking of trying something similar myself. Really nice work with the leg mod and the cannon. The head is shaping up nicely too
