How would I go about removing and replacing his headlight lens without damaging them? I'm afraid to pry them out.

Slowly push out the tabs evenly. But be weary not to bend the tabs or you'll end up bending the headlights end breaking them.

Unscrew the bottom and push the tabs from the bottom? Do you think heating it with a hairdryer to soften it up will help?

Yes, unscrewing those panels will get you underneath the lights. Take a screwdriver and see if you can push the light out via the peg. I believe some of them are glued, while other are just pegged. The pegs can break off, but I don't normally give a shit as I can just superglue it back on. It matters even less if you're just going to paint over it.

if they are glued, you can use heat to loosen them, but be careful so not to warp them.. and I'm not sure if to much heat would make them fog or not, so I would be weary of that as well.

This is so embarrassing. I pushed on the round peg, but it won't come out. The other piece near to the front of the car is not budging. I've tried heat to no avail.
