After the lackluster Optimus shown at Botcon, I decided to revisit my classics Prime. I had already done a little repainting, so the only problem I had with this mold was the arm kibble. I removed it using a soldering iron, and there is actually a short 5mm peg in the kibble itself. It can plug directly in to the screw hole in the back of the shoulders. With no additional drilling or modding necessary, it is possible to do this: I didn't want to commit to just one place to store the arm kibble, however, so I basically added 5mm holes on his shoulders and arms to give me multiple options. Then I modded some exhaust pipes from a Construct-bots Optimus to include an extra 5mm peg. In the end, there are several configurations with which to store the previous arm kibble and pipes. The door kibble can be pegged into the top of the shoulders in two different ways for a more IDW-esqe look. The door pieces still plug into their original location, or they can be pegged higher up the arm for a more streamlined look. The holes in the forearms are used to mount the exhaust pipes in vehicle mode. You can still attach the roof canopy, but I prefer to just throw it in the bin and use the flat roof top. So which robot mode configuration is your favorite? Let me know what you guys think.
