So he's finally done. It seems like it took me forever, but without checking a calender, I'm pretty sure that it was only a few months. The base figure is a knock off MP-01 care of kotoys.com. You can see the WIP Thread here.
I have to say the robot and carrier modes are superb, but the jet mode is a little bit wacky. Maybe it looks too futuristic, but the execution of you trying to make it into a jet is pretty cool. If this doesn't make sense I'm sorry. Its hard to criticize without sounding like a total asshole.
I think it fantastic! I don't mind the futuristic Jet mode, I'll call it a Starship mode. Just tackling a scratch built triple changer is a massive undertaking. I'm trying a MP style Blitzwing now, what a nightmare of engineering.
I like it lot,alotalot....I think all 3 modes came out great and as B.hank said I just think of the "plane" as a starship. Good to see him finished.
Thanks so much everyone! Ezilla- don't sweat it man. Crits are what we're here for just as much as compliments. And A starship is exactly what I was going for. I would definitely agree that the starship mode is the less realistic of the two, but on a tripplechanger corners have to be cut somewhere. A little mass shifting is a granted for a lot of Transformers, but Broadside always seemed over the line to me. That's why instead of dinky little plane his third mode is now a space cruiser. The silver lines on the hull and "cockpit" are meant to be rows of windows. Thanks again to everyone for looking and commenting.
Tom Servo- Thanks man. Okay I'm convinced that a space cruiser is a cool choice afterall after Tom mentioned that the silver lines on the hull and "cockpit" are windows. So its cool now.
I went into this thread fully expecting a horrible jet mode. But after seeing it, i love what you've done with it. I agree with Ezilla82 that the Jet mode is somewhat wonky compared to aircraft carrier mode, but it is a massive improvement over the G1 figure.
Wow... Broadside is a tough one, but you really pulled it off here! The carrier mode is slightly cartoonish, but amazing nonetheless. I agree with some of the others that a regular old fighter plane mode would have just been too extreme with the mass-shifting suspension of disbelief (not to mention harder to engineer), so I think this is a nice compromise. From the first moment I saw it, the flight mode gave off a total "Thunderbirds" vibe that completely sells me on it. My one complaint is that for such a large figure, he could really use some small surface detailing in all of his modes to give him a sense of mass and scale, especially when standing next to Classics figures. At the moment, the large flat areas of colour feel just a little too flat and simplified, and some superficial textures and doohickies might give him that extra bit of zing. Fantastic work! zmog
Finally a figure that does Broadside justice! You've taken easily the worst of the triple-changers & turned him into a f#ck'n badass! Kick-ass job Mate! I'm guessing Kelvin's gonna luv this... (he's going to Kelvin, right... )
Wow, congratulations. You should be proud man, like Smog said, this is tough one to pull off but each mode looks fantastic!
Jet mode almost kinda looks like an F-117 Stealth fighter. I like it. Carrier mode is awesome and so is the robot mode.
This is really superb. I do agree, the battlecruiser and bot mode is just ridiculously nice and homage to IDW Broadside and crossed G1. The jet mode I wasn't sold at first but through following the build and seeing some very clever engineering and the fact that this is a triple changer at this scale, I am in awe that Dave pulledn this off with such class. Only Dave would have come up with those ideas. well done buddy. You didn't upload the other photos? The black sheep...........
SMOG totally nailed how I feel about this. I'd like to see some more surface detailing, but wow . . . this is really awesome. I don't have any issues at all with the jet mode, though. The G1 toy was really wacky, and I actually like how you kept some of that, but pushed it in different directions. Your hard work really paid off here.
Goodness thats great work, you really brought him out in this and conveyed his size nicely. Broadside SMASH!!
