As most Classics collectors go I have a problem you all can help me with. And all I need is your opinion. Below is a list of continuity ambigious figures that I feel might have a place in my personal calssics collection. Please let me know if you think they belong. With some of these I am considering the 3rd party bots from igear as their representations in my collection. Obviously the not Huffer and not Seaspray are out of place in a classics collection geared around the scout/deluxe/voyager type collection. When you respond please copy my list and add your vote next to them and any comments you wish to add. I love opinions! I will add any notes to ones I feel strongly that they belong in the CHUG universe. This whole thing might seem silly to some of you but others will definitely sympathize. Please just give me your thoughts as they will all help me as this problem plagues me when I think of my collection. Thanks guys!! HFTD Scout Breacher - (new mold, intended to be partnered with Seaspray, see below) Scout Hubcap - (new mold, never used in a movie exclusive line, see below) Scout Firetrap - Does he look too much like Brawn to be included? And why in the hell didn't they just say this is Brawn??) Scout Crankstart & Sunspot - (if one includes GEN Sandstorm, then should one include him as well? and if so, do you reach out and take ROTF Beachcomber as his rep in a classics collection? Big problem that plagues many figures in this line and others) Scout Oil Pan - If you include the new Dead End then thisis a given, just like Sandstorm) Scout Brimstone & RTS Chopsaw (new mold, Chopsaw is in the latter RTS wave which is clearly classics as Windcharger was released in the same wave) Deluxe Terradive (new mold, never used in a movie exclusive line) Deluxe Tomahawk (Strongly feel it is a new Classics character, especially since this mold is used for GEN Springer) Deluxe Mindset (new mold, never used in a movie oriented line) Voyager Seaspray AND Voyager Highbrow(many sources at Hasbro say this mold IS classics Seaspray and was intended to be a GEN figure, but they did not have voyagers at the time in that line, so they included it in HFTD. If that is so, then you must automatically include Breacher because he is his partner, and you have to include Highbrow since Powerdive was a GEN mold and for the reasons stated above. Out of all figures on this list, in my op based on the statements Hasbro has made this is the one that should be in ones classics collection. It is also interesting to note that they also said some of the HFTD figures are not movie intended, but they fail to mention which ones, except Hubcap and Seaspray) *BTW, I excluded Scout Backfire simply because his mold is obviously a decepticon one. You can't take an evil looking bot, paint him and call him an autobot. no pain excluding him... RTS Scout Chopsaw (see above) Deluxe Mindset (if you include Hailstorm then to me you must include him as well) Deluxe Fallback (this is complicated. It is suggested that this rep IS classics Outback, but if you do that, then do you not have to reach out to the ROTF line and grab Brawn for your Brawn rep. This one is very perplexing to me because of the nice job igear did with Hench. I really like Hench and the yet to come not-Outback, but what do you do? If you go with igear, then what about their not Gears and not Swerve? Hasbro made a deluxe Swerve in the GDO line! Ugh! Why could they have not made it Trailbreaker or Hoist?? So, if you keep GEN Swerve, then what about Gears?) Definitely interested in the OP's on this one!) Voyager Deep Dive (Pretty easy. If you include Seaspray this is a given) And finally what about Scouts Brawl and Dead End in the GDO line? Dead End is a weak rep of the G1 counterpart as his colors actually look like Wildrider. Brawl does not work well with the Breacher mold because of his part in a gestalt, just like Dead end. Honestly I would have rather Hasbro just given these two new names or something. I love the Breacher mold and was disappointed to see Bodyblock and the Hubcap remold cancelled) Plese let me know what you think on these. Thanks guys!!!
I feel dizzy. Actually I just put them where the hell I want... Package titles don't dictate what I do!
Come one Jametron! Give me your back and white OP! Please! I know this is complicated, but some I just need another op before I green light them for my collection.
Pretty much this. Just buy what you want. It's your collection and other can't tell you what your personal preferences are.
Of those listed I currently have Deluxe Fallback, Deluxe Mindset, Voyager Seaspray, Deluxe Tomahawk & Deluxe Terradive in my collection. Fallback is my CHUG Outback & Seaspray from what I've heard was intended to be CHUG Seaspray. They will remain until better representation of them are released by Hasbro. Mindset or Hailstorm (haven't decided on which) and Terradive X3 currently represent Mindset (G2) - Transformers Wiki & Stormtrooper (Cybertronian) - Transformers Wiki from Cybertronian Empire (still looking for a good Rook re-purpose). Tomahawk may not fit into my collection restructuring but I had been using him as Tracer (G1 Decepticon) - Transformers Wiki. ROTF Brawn is the same as Fallback because the focus of my collection is mainly American G1. ROTF Beachcomber and GDO Sandstorm are also "place holding" as I don't like the way either scale with various CHUG Minibots or Triple-Changer updates/
I think the only one that fits in with the Classics aesthetics is Seaspray. The rest have the more intricate movie style.
Sea Spray, and by extension Deep Dive are the only ones that I would consider Classics. about the only point of contention that I think is valid about him being possibly a Bayverse figure is that his legs are reverse joint looking. However, the biggest thing for me is that he's still relatively blocky and he lacks the "pile of assorted parts" look that Bayverse designs are fond of. Classics are **NOT** straight recreations of G1 alt modes, in my opinion. The point of Classics is a re imagining of the character in a NEW and MODERNIZED alt mode and robot mode, rather than straight rehashing the G1 modes. Using this definition I think Sea Spray really fits the bill here.
No for all of them except possibly maybe Seaspray. I still don't get why everyone feels the need to force stuff into Classics, especially when they don't even represent any G1 characters.
There are a few valid reasons as to why fans do this, the main one being personal taste. People judge figures by different standards. What might not work as a Classics character for one may work for someone else.
Ok I agree, but what about Deep Dive? Same mold. And if you include him then what about Breacher. and then what about all the new molds in the HFTD. See how this can go? Ugh.......
Hasbro have pretty much told us anything from RTS/HFTD is fair game. So if it makes you happy, so ahead.
I wish it was this simple for me my friend. If so I would not have created the post. I like opinions and catagorizing things so this is complicated for me. Please help me out with yor specific OP's on each figure!
It's pretty easy. Deep Dive passes but I'd prefer a modern submarine, but I don't mind putting him in. Everyone else? No. They retain too much Bayverse influences. I've pretty much sold off all my movie stuff, given it away, or put it up in the attic, but the only movie stuff I still display really are just ROTF Bludgeon and HFTD Seaspray because they were the only ones that really screamed "Classics" for me.
What about Tomahawk and Terradive? they are classic-like plus the Tomahawk mold was used for GEN Springer? And don't you find it strange to have just one scout size in your collection in Windcharger? And what about PCC Huffer? Breacher screams G1 too, don't you think? Plus he was built for partnership (not in that way) for Seaspray? I actually thought of taking GDO Brawl, giving him an autobot reprolabel, and partnering him with Deep Dive. They should have released Bodyblock instead anyhow? What do you think??
Great advice. Just put them wherever you want. Don't let anyone else's opinion tell you what you should thyink. It's your collection.
I get what you and a few others are saying, but for me personally I want other OP's. Damn the HTFD line!!!
