I decided to get a henkei ultra magnus from tf source after they dropped its price for black friday. Now its gotten me thinking about the city commander addon after a buddy showed me a picture of his (thanks a lot for that  ). Obviously my major gripe is the cost of the original (trying to save for giant now) , then i found out that there is a ko version. Does anyone have the KO version and whats your opinion about it? Thanks.

 

Not worth it. Too many little annoying problems... some are really easy to fix (loose shoulder pads) and some are a bit harder (bfg won't peg together, or the forearm armor is too loose)

 

Didn't realize the original City Commander fell in price.

It's $70 at chimungmung chimungmung Toy Shop and only costs $30 more than the KO chimungmung Toy Shop.

 

You do know that you're only referencing the Shoulder missiles, face plates, and gun with that $70 price tag, right?

 

I own multiples of both. Don't even bother with the ko. By the time you perform the mods you could have just bought the real deal.

Actually, even though I have the non-KO of Shadow CC and Shadow Scythe I am thinking about getting the KO version just so I can open and fiddle with them. I guess spending so much for 3P product can make you wary of playing with them. Still hoping for KO version of Wildrider because I really like the color scheme of that toy.

 

Maybe if i can time this right, i can still get the FP trailer. Thankfully, theres not much from hasbro or takara peaking my interest at the moment, so that should help.
Incidentally, this would have been tons easier had green giant been sold in pairs like yellow :S

 

if you can get the original trailer for 140ish do it. people were paying $300 for just the trailer at one point.

 

I bought the ko version and its really a catch 22. It cost about 100 less than the official release, but has problems. Leg and waist armor are fine, but on mine at least the arms shoulders and chest are extremely loose. If its just being used for display it passes but if you plan on handling/ transforming it often it can get frustrating.
On a side note, its been mentioned on this forum that the new henkei release color scheme doesnt match the trailer as well as the original release. Rims are diff color and i think since lower legs are white instead of blue it might break up the coloring in the leg armor

 

the ko is a sloppy mess, it'll just disappoint you. go for the original

 

I got the original on a pre order and to this day after years of display its still right and tight. I was going to buy a KO set for my Prime just for the lulz and maybe repaint it....but then I saw the many vices of a knock off and how much work it takes to make it all fit right. Really. Just buy the original. I wouldnt worry too much about Giant. Next year they will most likely release another version with individual wrist articulation and even more fixes. It will be 500 dollars and they will call it limited. Youve got time.

 

Just offering my own thoughts on having the Henkei Ultra Magnus and the KO City Commander (I do not have the original City Commander to make any judgements). Problems as mentioned by the others: the shoulders and the arms are loose, which I fixed using old plastic cards with superglue. But there are parts which I cannot fix:loose pin joints in certain parts behind his shoulders There were also some stress marks along those pin joint areas. Not sure about the trailer mode because I just keep him for display and photo taking in robot mode. The white thighs and the blue trailer legs was not a concern for me. Just sharing a picture of it:



overall, i still very much like the KO cc because the original is too pricey for me and I would rather use the money saved as the funds for the upcoming products in the next few months...

 

Thanks all for your info and feedback. Zy80 thanks for that picture, gives me an idea of what it would look like.Bit of a tough decision, Ill have to think on it as its essentially going to be THE most expensive piece of kit ill have bought to date.

Other than the problems mentioned i'm fine with my KO version and I havent even done the fixes for it yet.

 

Does this KO include the shoulder missiles and extra gun? I was wondering if the KO CC got improved/updated to make it difficult to tell apart from the real deal.

 

It looks like the City Commander is up for Preorder again...
Now would likely be the best time to get it!

For KO CC, the shoulder missiles and extra gun was not included in the package; as far as I know, the KO CCs didn't get updated with the missiles and gun (but the Nemesis Prime and Shattered Glass CC versions do have it,afaik)
