Do people think we'll get Pretenders now? I mean properly done pretenders - i.e. proper transforming inner robots etc, as opposed to the prime masters from POTP. I hate to say it but apart from Thunderwing I can't see us getting them because I don't think Hasbro classes them as popular enough. A viewpoint I can understand, because apart from Metalhawk the inner robots aren't that special. If we do get Thunderwing I think it will just be the outer shell, the inner robot won't get a look in. It's a shame because I know some of the Pretenders' inner robots aren't that great, but there are a few i would like to see done properly, like Carnivac, and the bigger pretenders like Roadblock and Skyhammer. I also have a soft spot for Crossblades. I never had any of these, so can't say what the toys were like originally, but i always thought they looked awesome. To be fair if we were to get any of the regular Pretenders, e.g. Cloudburst, Skullgrin etc. I could see the inner robots being produced from the Clones mould because they transform in very similar ways. It makes me think this would be something more productive for third parties to go with rather than all doing the same figures e.g. multiple dinobots etc.

    I don't.
The outer shells would be an engineering nightmare and of course, people would complain about shellforming.

    Unlikely.
Bludgeon is a fan-favourite and has kid-recognition, so we might see a new Deluxe of him some day, but it'll be a skeleton samurai who turns into a tank. Which I'm okay with.
Monstructor might see a release as a Generations Selects toy (they DID make that headsculpt in PotP, shame for it to go to waste...), and we might get a Dinoking as well as a result of that.
The Pretender Beasts might get released as little -Master sized toys with beast mode shells--maybe a re-use of the Titan Master vehicle concept, or maybe as Micromasters--but I wouldn't hold your breath.

    Beyond that? Nah.

Oh yeah I forgot about the beasts - i would take a monstructor without shells any day.

I think Monstructor will get done when takara / hasbro gets round to doing the rest of the dual torso combiners e.g. Raiden, Liokaiser and landcross.

I'm having a hard time confirming it but I seem to remember hearing that after the Seacons, Takara was not going to make anymore combiners.

I think we could see Monstructor, and maybe the vehicles and animals touched on if they work through the larger Micromasters. I would be more than satisfied if they did the "standard" ones the same as POTP (I think). Unfortunately those didn't seem to sell very well, but I would love a whole set.

I did hear that as well, but I kind of feel that some of the combiner molds are too useful to hastak to waste in not doing the remainders. In theory to do a liokaiser, monstructor and Landcross they would only need to come up with two torso bots, the arms and legs could be reused from existing molds. Same with a torso bot for the roadcaesar - the dead end mold could be tweaked to be used twice for the legs. Not a fan of the idea personally but it seems like the sort of thing they would do.

It HAS to happen in one way or another.
    Where there's a will there's a way.

Pretenders were a substantial part of late G1 such as Masterforce and Marvel UK G1 comics.

It's about dam time Pretenders deserve respect in modern toy form. ( and NO, PrimeMasters versions is not even a proper homage - it's just a token-gift ).

Think of all the super concepts Ultra & Mega Pretenders. That Thunderwing character the fandom adores? Guess what, he started as a Pretender.

Yes, everyone is grossly exaggerating the phenomenon of Hasbro splicing evergreen characters into new lines.

    Of course, the main gist is that these lines ARE indeed moving forward chronologically albeit slowly, through the historical G1 catalogs;
because toys such as a cartoon accurate Skyfire, Scorponok, DoubleDealer and Snapdragon are evidence of this.

The Pretenders, the Mega Pretenders, the Ultra Pretenders and all of their Japanese versions are just too BIG a character roster for HasTak to dismiss.
So many other TF characters of which people previously thought they wouldn't be feasible or the concept of them wouldn't pan out commercially viable.
I believe they WILL find a way to make plenty of money from the entire 1988 - 1991 TF catalogs, Pretenders included.

Maybe. Though if they did, it'd probably be the first main line of figures I skip out on in a long time. Other than Submarauder and Skullgrin, I never really had an affinity for the Pretenders.

But hopefully, they come out really well designed and change my mind.

Why does everyone hate on the prime masters but cite master force as their reason for wanting pretenders? The pretenders were human disguises that had armor that made them slightly larger than a human with the cons being varyingly larger by a bit to half the size of a jumbo jet because f Japanese G1. I can understand wanting the inner robots since we got Metalhawk but the prime masters are appropriately sized, too large even, for what they are in the anime. Buzz off. We should get deluxe inner robots (and larger for others) and a matching prime master with a human form inside. That’s the ideal solution.

Siege was the first mainline of figures I skipped out on in a long time. I'm so tired of the 84 guys.

I don't know if we'll see Pretenders done as accurately as the Earthrise figures are being done. I really hope so, but after potp I kind of made my piece with having the G1 Pretenders in my chug collection.
I don't even know if I would buy chug Pretenders if they were done in a half-assed way.
I have read about deluxe class robots with snap-on armor or voyagers with Titanmasters inside.
Sorry for not being enthusiastic about those ideas, but most of thw inner robots did have great alt modes if you enjoy Cybetronian alt modes although I will concede that the first year bot modes were very standardized.

To me chug Pretenders should be all about transformable inner robots and shells with modern articulation. And I think it would be most interesting to Hasbro to produce all Pretenders as Mega Pretenders. IOW: transformable inner robots and transformable shells.
I don't even need the inner robots to be able to hide inside the shells, but I would like both to be reproduced faithfully.

When it comes to pretenders, not counting the Prime Masters, we have:
    -Classics and TR Black Shadow
    -Classics and Headmaster Thunderwing
    -TR Metal Hawk
    -Classics Skullgrin
    -RID15 and ROTF Bludgeon

So the pretenders have always been around, but I don't think we'll get hardcore new figures of all of them. Personally, I think we will probably see:
    -Generations Bludgeon
    -Generations Thunderwing
    -Takara Selects Metalhawk
