IMG_20200522_213909.jpg Just got back into TFs after years away and I realized I may never have posted this guy. Wasn't happy with the scale of classics hotrod, so I modded the hell out of this mold:

    Edited to add current pics:

While I wish you could've done something more with the vehicle mode cyberkey/spoiler feature, I'm 100% digging the alt mode!

Many parts were swapped between the two releases (headlights, fins, arms, ext.), Lots of painting, hands from a Jazz I think, drilled holes and sculpted wrists, drilled holes for leg pipes, cut apart chest, hollowed out for the matrix (from KT Prime bust), lengthened chest plate & moved down air vents, sanded and sculpted visor, cut out extra on the yellow fin behind his head, modded the windshield so it can hinge open, I don't remember if there was anything else.

Oh, and added a third triangle of plastic on each shin.

On the list of things I never got to, I wanted to figure out a hinge for the chest plate, and the car mode hood was going to get a more classic look to the flames with yellow and orange. Might have needed to fill in the massive hood vents for that.

Excellent - I had this custom in mind for while, it looked just like this in my head ;-)

I wanted a little break from Arcee today so I went back to Hotrod's alt mode. Filled in the vents and extended the spoiler. The hood will take some more rounds of filling and sanding before I can paint, but I think I'll leave the last vent there and paint it grey. IMG_20200329_153543.jpg

Minor update, carved the hood detail in so I can spray paint without loosing where my design goes. IMG_20200404_070742.jpg

I had Excellion as a kid and always wanted someone to make an upgrade kit to make him into a Hot Rod (City Commander had just dropped and I just watched the 86 movie for the first time, he was BEGGING for that pairing). Thank you for making that obscure childhood wish a reality, can't wait to see how you progress from here!

Nice! I like what you did on the hood and the chest piece with the matrix. I wish I would have done that with mine. Nice touch with the hands too.

Excellent work sir, excellent work :thumb

I still have this mold so I like to ask: how do you extend the legs? I been pulling like CRAZY and they won't extend.

This is super cool! I remember my first custom was similarly turning Cybertron Hot Shot into G1 Hot Rod, only I was 8 at the time and used nail polish, so yours is much more professional. Looking forward to your progress. :)

They just pull out, I think yours might be stuck.

  I was afraid of that.

    I'd hate to break it.

It's a Cybertron era toy. It won't break that easy, they're real sturdy. His gun, however.. tread lightly

Thanks all! Yes, the legs should just pull out. I don't remember having to alter them. I'll dig through my old posts and double check for you.

Edit* nope. Worst case you could unscrew the lower leg and make sure the mechanism is still moving right.

So I tried to spray the yellow with the same old can I still had from years ago, and it did not go well. Went out and bought a new can, and while it's much brighter than I had anticipated, I think it looks like the G1 toy. Now I just need to paint the orange and touch up the red IMG_20200412_145719.jpg
