I got the Takara LG version of Misfire recently, and I have to say this is one of the times that I like Hasbro's version better.

    Agreed!

Another little bit more Prime Wars wonder; the Clones and Punch/Counterpunch.

Despite being a G1 comics junkie, I totally fell in love with all these guys due to their brief, but rather memorable, appearance in 'The Rebirth'.
There's a part of me that is still really amazed that we got such faithful renditions of these dudes. Pricey to complete, but worth the entry fee, I think.

    Nice pic!

I disagree a bit with Acid storm (I get he flips in Cyberverse but that is the male toy) and Cindersuar is a dude, just looks like a girl cause he is a repaint of slash.

Another 'retool squad' that got done so well in yer 'Prime Wars' trilogy.
Much like the Decepticon Targetmasters, the retooling makes it feel like these three really are their own little unit (and like the clones, they're a costly unti to complete) and they're all the better for it. There's so much loving attention to detail in these three, particularly with Grotesque, that it does feel like someone had a burning desire to update their favourite toys from '87. And they're so niche! I think I value these so highly because it's hard to imagine them getting another pass anytime soon.

    Unf, this lad.

So lately I've been having a bit of a crisis of conscience over the gushing everyone's been doing over the Siege seekers - should I upgrade and go voyager? It would certainly be possible, even keeping my plan of having all three of the main trio in different moulds. POTP Starscream, SS Thundercracker (with a new head), Siege Skywarp... but then of course all my other Decepticon jets are deluxes. They wouldn't match.

So I got out Starscream for a fiddle and my oh my did it reaffirm that I made the right choice to keep my seekers deluxe. This is one of the single sexiest deluxes in my collection and it irks me no end he's been sitting idle in my detolf for so long. Despite his diminutive stature he has a commanding, imposing presence with those wide shoulders and stompy boots. He's one of a select few that look natural just standing up straight, so well proportioned is he.

The original Armada design was a fantastic concept, and looked lush in the animated series all those years ago (well, in stills from the series. Quality animation was never its strong suit) but was hampered by a simplified toy that was designed to hook new young'uns in rather than cater to the neckbearded collector or the teens who had grown up with Beast Wars and RID. So it's a joy that this T30/Legends version not only manages to achieve the promise laid down by the Armada Starscream's design, but even improves on it in some ways. Not just the articulation, that's a given, but the ability to do something about the heinous kibble katastrophe formed of those shoulder launchers. Flipping them round and onto the back not only makes for a more practically-minded seeker who won't brain anyone by turning around too quickly, but also manages to evoke the classic seeker shoulder vents. Or you could put the launchers forward again for an old-fashioned Armada look. If you're boring.

Downside is the size of course. Deluxes had noticeably shrunk the year before for TFP, and lingering effects carried on in T30. Starscream isn't the worst-hit by any means, but he's still smaller than the average, sadly. It might seem strange to bemoan this after just lauding my own decision to stick with deluxe seekers, but Screamer here could have stood to have been a smidge larger. The other downside is that minicons just look absurdly big on him. In fact, minicon cars actually end up almost in-scale, so attaching one to a minicon port in vehicle mode just looks like someone strapped a car to the roof of a fighter jet. A shame, but not a deal-breaker, unless you want to put him next to CW Armada Megatron, where the size difference is... more noticeable. But I reckon Megs can take some of the blame there.

'Why I loved Prime Wars (inc.T:30): part 4'
So, I've said it a few times, but one of the things that got me back into collecting TF's was the IDW comics, particularly MTMTE. Inevitably, I really loved every nod the toys gave in that direction, whether it's something as small as Rewind and Chromedome's headsculpts, or incredibly faithful renditions like Skids, Springer and Magnus (or even just getting Chromia at all). My CHUG shelf has always been my IDW shelf, so it really has made collecting the CHUG stuff that more pleasurable for me.

When the IDW continuity wound down around the same time that the new WfC toys were being released, I felt a little sad. Looking at that very non-IDW Magnus it really did seem like the days of the IDW homage were behind. How nice then to see we're getting Rung! I hope we'll get a few more nods as the years roll on.

I also wait for more IDW inspired toys. Especially Rodimus.
