Just read a story on gizmodo. A company in China is planning to build the new world's tallest building in just 90 days.

Personally, I've always wondered how quick could a tall building go up when its being worked on non stop

I doubt they can finish in 3 months. I give them 6.

Not to diminish them, but 90 days seems a tad optimistic. But I'd like to be proved wrong in this case.

Not going to lie, I'm a fan of this project, assuming it pulls off what it's claiming. Prefab skyscrapers could make the entire process a lot more efficient (and in many ways, reliable and safe), and the focus of building a sustainable, complete community in the one building is eyebrow-raising, even if it does bear more than a few parallels to the megablocks of judge dredd.

If they make it in 30 days, I bet it will be shoddy and someplace I should avoid. In my dreams, I always have nightmares about riding up express elevators going up so fast my head spins.

They are only building it so they can blow it up in the new TF4 movie.

5 floors every day. There's no physical way.

That's less than 5 hours for an entire floor.

Anyone notice Chicago's Hancock building in the background of the rendering? As far as I know, there's not a building like it in Changsha's skyline.

I watched Extreme Makeover Home Edition where they small down a dysfunctional family's house and rebuild it in a week. This project will be like that show but they will probably have the advantage of a massive work force. China has the largest population so I expect there will be day and night workers.

While I get that logic, and certainly having both day and night shifts is the first and most obvious way to increase speed of construction, the larger the workforce the increased chance of mistakes being made, especially when a project is intended to be done as quickly as possible. Plus it's a lot more people to organize. Also there must come a point when too many people are just getting in each others' way. It's not like they can all come in and do their part at the same time. Things have to be done in a certain order and some will have to wait for one part to be done before they can move onto doing the next part. There has to be a critical mass to any project where it reaches the point that throwing more people at it actually starts to slow things down rather than speed them up. All it needs is one person to make a mistake and the carefully stacked load of people and jobs to be done right behind them will crash into each other and take far longer to sort out and get back on track/schedule.

I have to wonder how many worker deaths they've calculated into the timetable to allow for.

I will tell you one thing, that is not a building I want to be in.

Imagine the QA issues on one of those. If they cannot get my TFers right, what makes them think they can do this, SAFELY? SAFELY being the main word.

I agree with this as being an entirely unrealistic schedule. I wonder how many overworked underpaid workers are going to die on this project, leaving their families to starve while the investors rake in the dough.
