To TFW2005: May all your alcohol induced, dysfunctional family holidays traditions not end in jail! Bah humbug.
The idea is to be as cheap as possible! When you have friends like me there is no question as to what they deserve! I have seen re-gifting happen as fast as five minutes. I once gave someone a watch I got five minutes earlier! XD Better than that how about leaving a wrapped empty gift? at a party go for a bit and leave someone a gift, split then.... A good one I pulled on a buddy of mine for his birthday earlier this year was a 100 Amex giftcard with 6 bucks on it. The phone call when he tried to use it was priceless! XD
Reused greeting cards, I can see that - but this is just shitty. What if he went out to an expensive dinner or something and needed to pay with that? Not cool.
And the only response should be Personally, I prefer a phonecall, much cheaper once you factor in the cost of sending cards: Box of Cards (lets say 50 like my mom usually buys): $5 Hopefully the come with envelopes if not: $2 STAMPS! Jesus these things are expensive, let's assume you buy the cool "Forever" stamps one for each of those 50 cards: that's $0.42 per stamp x 50 cards=$21 In total you've dropped around $30 worth of thought when you'll get the same reaction out of people just by vocally wishing them a Merry Christmas (or whatever your holiday of choice is). For the record, 30 bucks is almost half of my phonebill a month...
im a cheap ass at just about everything other than xmas presents for my mum and girlfriend and toys for myself
I once got 100 cards for 50p in a cheap shop. That was years ago and i still have enough left for another year or two. On top of that some charities send out small packs of christmas cards in the letters for money we get this time of year. If I want a special card for someone I make it myself printing out something with personal meaning to it so it actually is special. If its just a card for friends I dont see the point wasting silly amounts of money on a bit of card board. At the end of the day a cards a card. Does not matter how much is spent on it.
Yesterday I stopped at a "Dollar General" and they have a box of 25 Christmas cards for only $3. It also includes the envelopes.
since where i work i make commissions, i also have chances to win gifts. discover card giftcards valued at $10, speedway gas cards valued at $5, and various trinkets. yeah, my christmas "buying" is done.
