Hey folks, We recently sat down for a Triple Takeover chat with Evan Brooks from Hasbro, and it's now live! It's up on Spotify, all major podcast hosts, at www.tripletakeover.com or you can find it on YouTube here: Needless to say, plenty of info relating to Studio Series, Generations/Legacy and the Retro reissue line...
Having exchanged a few messages with him on Instagram, I will say Evan Brooks always seems super relaxed and friendly. He may not always answer a question or give the exact answer you want but never seems to rule anything out. Super chill guy. +-MWG-+
Evan is an Exkaiser guy? You love to hear it. Fun transformation and posability > lights and sounds. Based design philosophy. Also this Hasbro warehouse with copies of every figure? Can we see it? I’d love a BTS project that was just one of the TF team strolling through the warehouse and pulling out cool old stuff to talk about.
Interesting to hear Evan use the term "kid line" to draw a distinction between media tie-in mainlines and collector lines in Generations/Studio Series and above. I know the fandom has debated on terms for that divide. I also feel like we never hear from designers for the kids' lines? Super curious about how that all goes down now, and to what extent designers on those two sides are currently in communication. Maybe I've missed things (totally possible!), but for as much transparency as there is with the design side now, that still feels largely opaque. (I want to know more about who's been doing the mainline One figures, because they rule.) EDIT--Should have written this up front, but fantastic interview! Very well-handled.
Because it isn’t 2007 anymore. Lights and sounds aren’t what draws over screen accuracy and articulation
Thanks for sharing the podcast, Sixo. I'm looking forward to the G2 episode. Aren't you reviewing Fanshobby Clutch BTW? I was sure you'd get that one.
Thanks! And no plans on Clutch I'm afraid - doubt I'll pick it up at this point. It looks amazing though!
