Was there ever a dude you thought was a chick, or a chick you ever thought was a guy in any show or movie you watched?


Frieza is a big example for me. It only took me 2 years to figure out he was a dude.

A shit ton of anime characters. Guess what gender these guys are:

 

I'm sure there are characters I thought were the wrong gender. Can't think of any right now, though.

Also some cartoon animals. But I feel less confused about that.

 

When I watched the episode "Heavy Metal Queen" from Cowboy Bebop, I was so sure VT was a gay man right up until the end of the episode when Spike correctly guessed her first name as Victoria (or something feminine; I don't remember it exactly right now) and called her her husband's "wife". Between her low (for a woman) voice (in the dub anyway), her fairly masculine facial features, her gender-ambiguous hairstyle and clothing, and her not particularly distinguished chest, I thought she was a guy right from the beginning, and when she mentioned her husband, I figured "he" was gay (although I did think it was strange that they had included a gay character in the show without making a plot point of it or anything). Also, of course, Ed from the same show.

Please, someone tell me I'm not alone about VT. I was so mortified when I found out she was a woman.

 

What about Zero from SD Gundam?



He was actually a guy, but I thought he was a chick due to his female voice actor.

 

This is going to be embaressing, but Michael Jackson.
The first time I saw him was in an interview when I was eight. He had a high pitched voice, long hair, and it looked like he was wearing make-up. I didn't know he was a guy until the commentator said "he".

As for the Anime thing:

I never really found identifying anime characters difficult. Anime is too obsessed with female character's earth shattering boobage to give them small enough chests, so the ambiguous looking characters are always male.
And for prepubescent girls, just wait for the voice. If it sounds like they took a newborn into the studio to record lines, then it's a girl.

Anime is easy.
