A distinct mold with the same transformation is exactly what a retool is. They wouldn't share the same transformation if it wasn't a retool.

No, that's shared engineering. Having owned multiple copies of both molds, I can't really think of any shared parts to back up the retool idea. Heck, back in the 90s I bought an extra G2 Bee to serve as parts to fix G1 Bee (red, by the way) and Cliffjumper. Bee worked perfectly, of course. But the Bee parts didn't fit on Cliffjumper, so I had to cannibalize the G2 Hubcap I'd also gotten to fix him (since Hubcap is a retool of Cliffjumper).

Cliff and Bee are unique molds, not one a retool of the other.

The chest piece is quite different from the original, actually. But my point is that PotP Star Saber almost would definitely share engineering and a few parts with Primal. Basically, the original Primal Prime may have informed some designs on Milne's IDW SS design which in turn informed PotP Primal - particularly everything about the chest piece.

And yes, we have now another case of radical shared engineering with Siege Magnus and Siege Cybertron Optimus.

Cybertron Optimus looks to be completely new tooling with a few shared parts. That's not retooling. That's shared engineering - similar to Siege Chromia vs PotP Fembots.

the core cab is largely the same aside from the chest (based on artwork from idw), also the lower legs in combined mode look to have no retooling. so no, thats not shared engineering, its a retool

The only shared bits are the legs and the cab arms. The cab torso, arm armor and back armor are all entirely new.

There's extremely high probability that PotP Star Saber and Primal would have shared the same fate had SS been released - to the point that Primal fans would have been postulating Star Saber stole Primal's designs.

armor legs are the same, and judging from the idw artwork THE ENTIRE CAB EXCEPT FOR THE CHEST IS THE SAME. the only parts that are an entirely new tooling would be the cab front end/chest/windows and the upper body armor. the core figure is still the same with a retooled chest. you do realize that the windows/chest of the cab is one single piece and thats all that they are replacing on the cab right? so the core bots have much more in common than you are trying to claim

Well, to be fair, we're both mis-using terms here. It's not re-tooling nor shared engineering. It's "new tooling".

(And the chest on the cab IS pretty much the entire cab - so the cab is almost entirely new tooling.)

This is a case of the latter example of extreme new tooling. But my point still stands regarding IDW Star Saber and PotP Primal that they most likely had shared engineering or extreme new tooling concepts (if both were to be made). There ARE enough commonalities that there's no reason to dismiss that theory out of hand.

I tried swapping parts between the FoxKids Cheetor and Armada Cheetor... mainly I wanted the orange upper arms from Armada Cheetor on the Fox Kids version for a Rodimus Primal custom I was working on... guess what, the parts don't fit. By your logic this must mean that it's an entirely new mold and not just just the obvious retool that it actually is.

The reason the parts don't fit is called mold degredation. The ball joints are just ever so slightly a different size which when swapping them results in one set of arms having overly tight joints while the other set of arms is so loose he can't lift his arms. They work fine when assembled the way they were originally but tolerance in the joints has changed between the two uses of the mold. That's all it is, it doesn't mean they aren't shared parts. The only thing new on the figure is the Mini-con ports on the wings.

Blue Bacchus is one I really wanna see. Too bad Sky Shadow is getting more of the spotlight. I wish Blue Bacchus could get some toys.

Vector Sigma, all I suggested was that we need an affordable update of Victory Saber and I inadvertently started an argument... Can't we just move on now?

As for the whole Bumblebee/Cliffjumper debate, I'd like to go back to where Cliff is more than Bee painted red. In G1 they were different model cars, even if they did transform the same. One wasn't just a different colored clone of the other, and it would be great to go back to that..

Mold degradation? Then why did G2 Bee's parts fit on G1 RedBee perfectly? Because they're the same mold. And similarly while Bee's parts weren't similar enough to Cliffjumper's to be a substitute, his retool Hubcap was a perfect donor. It wasn't that the parts were an imperfect fit due to mold reuse, they were different parts entirely!

    Try again.
