I used to think Spinister was called Spinster. I’d blame my Dyslexia but I think o just assumed that was his name and sped read it from then on.

Me too! Forgot about that one. Less mistaken if you went by my reasoning: look at the Decepticons, they ARE robots in the sky!

After thirty-five years, I *still* have a hard time not referring to Trailbreaker as "Trailblazer." It got even harder when I started following the NBA.

Soundwave and Shockwave. Not much else to elaborate upon here.

I used to call "Air Raid," "Air Head."
Also "Hardshell" and "Bombshell." I like the name "Bombshell" as it sounds funnier.

I did the same thing, and I'm not dyslexic. I never realized that it was a combination of "spin" and "sinister" until I was older.

I also called Grotusque "Grotesque". Again, I didn't comprehend the combination of "grotesque" and "tusk". Plus, it didn't help that I think some print media spelled his name wrong.

I had a friend from Taiwan who had an Ultra Magnus, and he insisted the white Prime with it was called Rhino Prime, so that's what we called it. To this day I have no idea where he got that name from; I guess he made it up.

The G1 toon ep "A Plague of Insecticons" was the first I ever saw of the Insecticons (they weren't in stores yet), and their weird voices sometimes make it really hard to understand what they're saying. I was able to make out Kickback's name, but I ended up calling Shrapnel "Shrubno" because I wasn't familiar with the actual word "shrapnel" and that's what it sounded like on the show. Bombshell's name is nearly incomprehensible the 2 or 3 times that ep mentions it, especially if you have no idea what they're saying, so I just called Bombshell "Dragon" based on Kickback's comment "Hey, watch it dragon-breath". :D
Imagine my relief when I finally saw the toys in stores and learned their true names.

My dad always thought he had a g1 jazz as a child, but as it turns out, he owned a prowl instead. He always says that sideswipe was his favorite though, like father, like son I guess.

I used to think Skywarp was the blue one, and that Skyfire came before Jetfire. This was before I got into the toys and Marvel comics. It also took me forever to realize that Spinisiter wasn't pronounced Spinster.

Reading Target 2006, I thought it was Unicorn and wondered why he was called that. It wasn't until I see the movie and heard it said out loud at the cinema in December that it was actually Unicron.
    Does Unicron mean anything though?

    Ditto for Spinster too.

Not a character name but in the Marvel comics I thought that they referred to humans as carbon basted, not carbon based.

All thanks to my Dad’s smart ass quips about my Mom’s cooking, no doubt. :D

I didn't confuse their names, more their characters. Up until fairly recently, I could never remember which was Buzzsaw and which was Laserbeak.

I remember Runamuck and Runabout’s names by thinking the more dynamic sounding name goes with the less dynamic looking color scheme — to kinda even out their coolness.

I still don’t know if I should spell it ‘Dragstrip’ or ‘Drag Strip’ (?)
And I didn’t make the connection until a few years after getting into collecting as an adult that Breakdown’s name is also in reference to his mental state.
