I know this is probably a very common thread, but what are the chances we will see a stateside release of MP sideswipe? I have been contemplating for so long cancelling my takara pre-order due to the price and size. Just wondering what others think.

My biggest fear is it not getting released due to licensing issues or some sort of weird mold issue (prime breakdown). I am definitely keeping my red-alert pre-order since he is more of a questionable release imho.

Every Masterpiece mold, with the exception of MP-05 for obvious reasons, has received a domestic release. I think it's very possible that we'll see him in the States.

    I can't know for sure.

But I know what Satomi is saying is correct and that I'm a cheap bastage. I'm also risk averse and it's that risk aversion that is competing with my cheapness.

I don't think any other MP mold has had licensing issues to deal with though.

Hasbro may not think its worth it to go after the licensing, or it may be too expensive.

I'm not an expert on licensing, nor do I claim to be, but I wonder if it's possible for Hasbro to purchase the Lambo license for a short amount of time as opposed to a multi-year agreement. And I have to wonder if the retailer (Walmart vs. TRU) they choose to partner up with for the hypothetical domestic release of this figure has any actual effect on that. Any licensing experts care to interject?

I can't say for sure. I picked the "Hurry up and buy!" option, but I want to clarify. Only buy it if you can get it for a steal. If this gets released in the USA, it'll probably be around 40-50 bucks and with less paint, so a little more for the Takara version is O.K. However, if it does get released in the USA you may have to wait a couple years depending on how easy it is for Hasbro to get the license to use the car.

how small is it compared to recent MP figures. I know its been rescaled to fit inside the OP trailer, but for comparisons sake, what class are we looking at?

Around voyagerish size, slightly smaller than PP-05 if that helps.

I can't vote since I simply have no idea.

However, I won't be taking any chances and I'll be keeping my current pre-order.

I hope it will be available in the states, they have it listed for pre-order.

Being from the UK it doesn't matter if it does price would be around the same so Iv'e got the TT versions ordered, also they'll come in nicer packaging, I mean who can resist those shiny black boxes.

    It's a toss-up.

On one hand, I would have assumed all MPs other than Megatron, Soundwave, and any others with non-ambulatory alt-modes would come to US shores almost for sure. But with licensing, it's a very real possibility they won't bother.

I lean towards yes, though. I'm just afraid Soundwave won't come.

Same here. I'm trying to buy the Hasbro Thundercracker now, but aftermarket prices pushes it up to Takara Starscream levels, sometimes even higher.
At least now I know that there's no point in hesitating over a Takara release :)

Wait until it actually reaches "aftermarket" before you know for sure. While I think you're probably better off getting Takara Sideswipe, Thundercracker shouldn't be that bad. There's a ton of commotion about him right now, which is making MORE commotion, which is absurd since he hasn't even hit half the states yet. And is still intermittently being sold online at TRU. The price WILL drop.

This. It's cheap as MP's go (I know it's smaller yadda yadda but still) and speaking as an Englishman, if it even makes it in the UK I can't see it being any cheaper.

Have it sooner and be safe or end up hunting high and low like for Grimmy and TC? No brainer. In fact I literally pre-ordered him with the Amazon piledrivers 10 minutes ago :D

I expect both sideswipe and soundwave to have a US release, but I also feel there is some contingency on how well toysrus does on selling the exclusive lines they're getting in before Christmas. I'm speculating that the reason tru got them was because skywarp failed to sell at Walmart until it was clearanced and the same happened for leadfoot at Target.

I don't NEED Sideswipe and Red Alert. If they come out in the US, I'll get them, but I'm not paying $80 a pop for them.
