CBR's Top 100 Comics of 2012, #100 - 75 - Comic Book Resources CBR's Top 100 Comics of 2012, #74 - 50 - Comic Book Resources CBR's Top 100 Comics of 2012, #49 - 25 - Comic Book Resources CBR's Top 100 Comics of 2012, #24 - 11 - Comic Book Resources CBR's Top 10 Comics of 2012 - Comic Book Resources I suppose most people already know this, but anyway, CBR is posting top 100 comics of this year. Is there any comics you enjoyed? Is there any series you think should be on that list? I spotted "New Crusaders: Rise of the Heroes" (by Archie/Red Circle Comics) on rank 70, and bought it via comiXology. Though I know nothing about "Mighty Crusaders" (they say NC follow that '80 comic series), I enjoyed it well. Everyone gets enough spotlight, and all of them are likeable. Meanwhile, I check the column "The Buy Pile" every week, and lately it keeps recommending TF: MTMTE and RID every month. But neither of them are on the top 100 so far... Will those two make it?
Not surprised to see that the list is mostly loaded up with indie stuff I've never heard of, but that's generally how these sorts of things go. Stuff I'm reading that made the list (so far): 89. Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service 67. The Walking Dead - Should be higher, IMO; at least in the top 25. 27. The Boys Stuff I plan to read that's on the list (so far): 85. Irredeemable/Incorruptible - Read the first two trades of Irredeemable, haven't gotten around to reading the rest. 47. Empowered Stuff that should be on the list: - Avatar The Last Airbender: The Promise
24 to 11 are revealed. The link is attached on the first post. Still no glimpse of MTMTE/RID. I doubt they are on top 10...
I don't see why not. For example: Spider-Men is at place #23. I really liked that book - but I also feel MTMTE is even better than that one. There's still a chance MTMTE and/or RID will appear in the top 10.
Top 10 revealed! 10. Hellblazer 9. Uncanny X-Force 8. The Underwater Welder 7. The Manhattan Projects 6. Daredevil 5. Prophet 4. Batman 3. Hawkeye 2. Building Stories 1. Saga ...Why, WHY!? MTMTE and RID deserves top 100! GRRRRRR
MTMTE isn't mainstream within comics enough. People see it and think movie/cartoon tie-in, even though it's anything but. I am surprised in CBR, though, since they've had MTMTE in the buy pile many months, and yet not even a mention? Fucked up.
I can accept, based on various tastes, MTMTE not being in the top 10, but to not even be anywhere in the top 100? That's bullshit.
The funny thing about your comment though is that the list has a number of non-mainstream work. It's most likely because it's exactly in between the critically acclaimed independent books, and more common well written commercialized fare, with little backing up TF as a property knowned for good writing. Avatar made it after all, and most likely because the comic had good writing but the cartoon was known for it as well. Good writing like the one on MTMTE can't stay unnoticed forever though, and some review sites that hardly ever write about or speak well of licensed comics like this have started mentioning MTMTE as a great read, so hopefully we'll see it next year.
I think Transformers have disadvantage, since it was originated from toys. Maybe they intentionally avoid to mention TF. Like "Transformers is petty toy toy promotion comics! They are not pure/true/whatever comics! It doesn't worth review!", I guess. (Apology in advance if I'm overreacting) But we still have next year, so I will keep my hope.
I'm guessing it's not intentional but rather it flew below the radar. We know they read IDW stuff, because titles like GI Joe Cobra made it to their list before. Hopefully if enough people bring it to their attention, MTMTE can get the attention and acclaim it deserves.
Except for the several times MTMTE got the spotlight on CBR in their "buy" pile. They obviously know about it. Either somebody just forgot while making the list or there's some bull God-damn shit going on.
Maybe they left out MTMTE because it was too good that it wasn't fair for it to compete with other comics. Just Kidding.
Do people think Transformer titles sell? At least in a real appreciable volume to the big boy titles? They don't. It does not mean they are not good, just means they don't start with Super.... or X-....... . Anyone who buys at an actual comic shop, check it out on Wednsday. How many copies of new transformer titles are there versus Iron Man, Batman, X-Men or Avengers? It will be like a 10-1 ratio in the latters favor. Last time I saw numbers for sales it was like 10,000-11,000 range, I would assume MTME has climbed some since then.
There's way too many low-key, never-heard-of Indie titles on that list for it to be about sales. Also, of course Transformers titles sell. If they didn't we wouldn't have, like, five running at the same time right now. I'm still surprised people are raving about Batman. I found it utterly boring and insipid by the time the court of Owls ended and dropped it after issue #11. Maybe I'll pick it up again. Or get a trade. But I hope "Death in the family" is more rewarding than the "Evil maybe-brother seperated at birth who we've never heard of before" twist or the bland, uninteresting character of Harper Row.
