    5 movies later, you're still hopeful, eh? lets not forget who is in the producers seat

    is this theorizing of yours occuring in the same universe as the previous 5 movies, or a hard rebooted one?

    You mean the guy that made a financial bomb for the production company a month ago, who's done 0 interviews for this film, and who's name isn't on any of the marketing?

    You know what a producer does in most cases? Produce. As in they put up money for the film, and in the case of bay do some of the visual (through his VFX company) effects, that's it. Both hasbro and paramount are billing this as a film by award winning director Travis knight. Fragging TMNT had more bay branding than this!!!

    Simply put, you can't condemn a film before it's ever been made just because of the universe it takes place in. Heck if your line of thinking was true, Wonder Woman would have been as bad as batsoup.

    i'll ask again, is this movie going to occur in the same universe/plot arc as the previous 5? or is it a hard reboot / alternate timeline?

    that being said, you do make a good point regarding wonder woman. however, i think 5 times of repeated disappointments is different than a couple missteps in the DC universe that are publicaly acknowledged by those same creators

    You have a point. But I think the other dude might mean DiBonaventura too. These are not auteur films after all. The producers have a huge involvement. And Bay isn't the only person involved with these movies that seems clueless about Transformers. Heck, in these movies, even car companies get a say on the films' choice of characters.

    Lucky this one uses out of production cars then :p

    Honestly though, Travis knight is an award winning director with at least one great film under his belt. I'd at least like to give the guy a chance.

    I wish they would give him a proper chance too. To do his own thing, independently of the Bayverse's already set aesthetic rules and broken lore.

    Stunticons:
    Yellow=Dragstrip
    Red=Dead End
    White=Breakdown
    Black=Wildrider

    Bee vs The Stunticons/Menasor might actually make me go see it. Nothing about TLK made me go to the theaters this summer.

    I still say the lore isn't broken. The timeline hasbro put out fixes most of it.

    As for the aesthetic, that's a matter of taste. Outside of the crazier stuff I love the bay aesthetic. May bay figures share a wall with my MP's

    Speaking of nice cars. I still think a fucking awesome way to introduce a Transformer would be we see someone in their car.. Someone comes up and compliments it and the driver makes a weird remark, "Oh it's called a Chevy? Cool.." Then they drive off and the hologram fades out as they transform in a secluded area.

    I get why people would think this is pointing at Cliffjumper, especially with Bay not involved. But remember, this is still the same franchise that changed:

    • Ratchet, Skids and Crosshairs to green
    • Ironhide, Jetfire, and Hot Rod to black
    • Drift, Wheeljack, and Wheelie to blue
    • Drift, Sentinel Prime, and Mirage to red
    • Sideswipe to silver/chrome
    • etc.
    And that's just the Autobots. In a lot of those cases it's been mandated by the car license agreements: they have to have the characters be the color used by the car models, and the manufacturers only use certain colors with certain models. I see no reason for Bay's absence to change this.

    So basically what I'm saying is that while a red car could be Cliffjumper, it could just as easily be someone who was not red before, but has to be red because the car maker says so. I'm pretty sure they choose the characters and then the cars, but sometimes the cars change the characters.

    I'm fairly sure there ARE no car manufacturer agreements for cars made over two decades ago...

    To be fair, I don't consider the 2007 movie to be a misstep.

    4 missteps is still plenty enough to have a large degree of distrust in the universe they've established thus far

    But DC's few missteps are less than 4?

    did they not deliver three critically, commercially, and creatively successful interpretations of batman via nolan? can you with a straight face honestly say this has been achieved with transformers?
