Okay, so some news we didn't know. There is a Vehicon version of the mold, and the reason it didn't get picked up is whatever company was making it wanted it shrunk down. Also, it seems to be based on the vehicle being chased in the beginning of DOTM on Cybertron.

 

Nifty. I hope mmc or some other cool company picks this up. Its a really nice design.

 

Do we know what size they were? Hard to judge the companies desire to shrink without that knowledge.

Also I think you have it backward. If it is the Decepticon ship, then it should be the chaser, not the chased. The chased was the Bayverse Ark.

 

Sark described them as Ultra. So probably similar to Ultra Onslaught, Powerglide or Silverbolt.

He probably wanted them bigger then the RTS and Animated Voyager Lugnut, since that would be a good selling point.

 

Sounds to me like Cassy intended him to be around Hex size and no-one wanted to pay for the requirements needed to pull off a figure of his size well especially of characters that in the grand scheme of things are hard sells since none of them are g1s.

I'd be ok with a voyager sized version honestly, better than nothing at all.

and maybe Triton.

 

Good for Cassy sticking up for his design. I'm MUCH prefer this guy at Ultra size, as Voyager is much too small for Lugnut to look imposing.

 

Agreed. While I would like to see this toy design realized, even at a size smaller than the intended size, I think it's great that Cassy stood by his design intent.

 

The base body the arms and legs and much of the jet I'm all fine with - the only issue is that these characters don't have much to do with each other so being so similar in vehicle mode is a bit of an issue.

I would suggest some mild alterations specific to each mould or making pieces that can be assembled in more than one configuration to alter the look.

For example : make the feet reversible so the toes become the heels and the heels the toes between two designs.

Make the blade of the pick changeable or reverseable or mountable in different ways if it was the other way up on depth charge it might look like Depth Charge's fish-gun - but another idea is to add a extra piece to make it shaped like an anchor when used for Depth Charge.

Make the spines in the engine intake removable and able to be mounted in the back of the jet as rear facing spikes as an option.

The other idea that might work is to have some curved kibble fillers that fit on either the top of the wings or the side of the arms or legs - moving them or changing which ones got where alters the look - all of them could also combine into something like a shield or armour around a gun - or simply to change the look of the arms/legs/ top of the wings or engine.

That would require moving the curves around so that a few pieces can go in multiple places - but that "Option" would get rid of some of the issue of them looking like a simple repaint with a new head.

If it makes you feel better, this design was sold to a company and should see the light of day at some point.

Although why MMC passed on it back in the day I've never fully understood.

That's actually why I brought this guy up in the B@st@rds thread the other day when I found out that Cassey was the designer. I had hoped to hear some kind of news about this guy, and here we go with great news.

Wasn't it announced somewhere that this design was picked up by a new company a few months or a year ago? Good to know it's still on track, nevertheless.

And it is a pity that MMC won't be producing this and giving us the Zealot-Oberon-Titanika love triangle.
