It's a bummer to see him go, but if I were in his position, I'd want them to pull the plug on me too.
Um... guys, Casey Kasem isn't dead yet. You're talking as if he is. He's just being taken off of life support. Granted that pretty much assures that he'll pass any time now, but let's not write the guy off just yet until it's actually happened, K?
Personally I think the method of letting him gomis abhorrant, denying food and water until he dies? Why not give him a drug in his sleep? In the UK there was a big stink over something similar called the 'Liverpool care pathway' where Doctors (sometimes) arbitrarily stuck you on and relatives watched the person die because they weren't informed about exactly what the Liverpool Care plan actually was. Basically Doctors made the decision whether or not you were worth saving and gave a bunch of documents for grieving stressed relatives to sign. Amongst them would be a consent form for the LCP. Once you signed it the Doctors would do nothing, nor explain why they were doing nothing bevause the hospitals were getting money for hitting targets for people put on the LCP. Sure, this situation is totally different, there's full disclosure about whats going to happen, but going out by starvation is a nasty way to go, especially when they can last for a week or so. To quote the Kurgan, 'It's better to burn out, then to fade away! Hyah! Hahaha!'
Slaving at a job every single week of your life is NOT what I'd call living! Being trapped in the human insect colony surrounded by mindless worker drones that are obsessed with & worship money is NOT what I'd call living. Working, shopping, getting drunk & watching TV is NOT what I'd call living. The entire human race is basically brain dead. Now go punch that time clock like a good little drone. Kiss "THE MAN'S" ass & get nothing in return like a good little obedient zombie. Casey Kasem doesn't have to put up with any of that stupid bullshit anymore. I envy him. Death is preferable to employment/slavery.
That's how you actually live so yeat that's living. Let's see, money buys food, shelter, medicine, pretty much everything you need to survive in life. So yeah, wanting money is part of living. Gotta work to eat, gotta shop to have clothes and eat, I'll give ya the other two, fine, but your whole idea is ridiculously stupid. The human race is more advanced than ever, stop talking out of your ass. If it's so preferable, I mean, is there a particular reason you're not joining him? I'm not being an asshole here (okay kinda but I'm also asking a serious question). I mean are you suicidal because you seem unstable.
Upset he's passing. I'm glad they actually let him get unplugged if that's what he wanted not dragging it out more than he wanted. I never understand why they do it to people in the first place if people never come back, I could understand if people came back fine all the time from after they are put on the machines.
Because we as a culture have decided that actively ending a person's life is not acceptable from a medical standpoint, and letting them dehydrate to death is acceptable. It's a shitty situation, believe me, I am well aware, but it's also a complicated medical quandary. The good news is, he won't be in pain, they'll give him medication or sedatives and make him as comfortable as they can, and as gruesome as it sounds, once the body gets past a certain point of dehydration, it starts to feel a sort of delirium, so there's a bitter sense of mercy in that. There are no good deaths.
