Whats with cartoonnetwork dropping so much of it's anime. First we practicaly lose anime on toonami then we lose toonami altogether. Now the only anime we get is after midnight on adultswin on saturday. And it seems lately from theyr tone adultswim dosnt care for anime anyway. The only new shows we get are Bleach and Code Geass. WTF?! Cartoonnetwork is what helped put anime in the spotlight on American t.v. and now all they want to play is that shitty 16teen or Johnny Test. I like some of those non anime cartoonnetwork shows like Batman The Brave And the Bold and Clone Wars but I love anime too.
Do not speak ill of 6Teen, that show is awesome and one of the better cartoon series being run on CartoonNetwork. Johnny Test is too on occasion when there's nothing on. As for CN dropping all its Anime, I've never really noticed since I honestly don't frequent that channel anymore. Maybe its become too much of hassle for them to maintain lately.
When I want toons, Boomerang. When I want crap, Cartoon Network. When I want barely 30 minutes of entertainment a week, Adult Swim. When i want pre-pubescent versions of adult reality shows, i willl turn to....Cartoon Network????? wtf?
6teen is awesome as well as the Total Drama series. CN used to have great anime. Zoids, G Gundam, even fucking Naruto. Even that's gone. Thank god I just got Boomerang out of nowhere yesterday.
It doesn't help that most of these anime fans much rather just watch these shows either legally or illegally on the internet. It's very much the same here in Canada. The only teen oriented anime series that actually air on channels people can watch it are Bleach, and Naruto. We're tonnes of episodes behind the US too.
It use to be that you could turn on CN 8 times out of 10 and find something worthy of watching... now it's more like 1 in 10.
Cartoon Network hasn't had any "real" (i.e. non-tradingcard/kid game based) anime in a LONG time. It's cheaper for them to re-run original shows, and even cheaper still to make live action reality show rip-offs. And as for teh AS group, well the boys at Williams street don't seem too keen on most anime either. At least with them they'll continually run shows with large/loud fanbases, but they too prefer in-house and cheap syndicated shows. The only reason we even get saturday anime is because of hardcore fan bitching on their forums. For a while the only anime they would show would come on at 5am, which really sucked. If they can get their hands on some good anime, they'll show it. But it's really slim pickings out there from what I can tell. But I haven't really followed anime in a while so I'm not sure what's currently out there.
I hope this isn't true, as Adult Swim has introudced me to a lot of Anime that I now love. I will probably be buying Code Geas when the season sets come out, I'm working on buying Death Note, and currently looking for the second half of Trigun. I bought FMA as it came out....yeah, I owe adult swim many thanks for introducing me to so much awesome. Now show the rest of Moribito already! PS: Can't we have one Anime thread where someone doesn't rag on dubs? Just one? You can go create your own "dubs suxxors" thread if you want, and I promise not to defend them.
Ratings. Period. It's not hard to figure out. Why you would wanna watch edited and badly dubbed versions with commercials anyways is beyond me.
I highly doubt there will ever be a Anime Discussion Thread in which somebody doesn't say "English Dubs Sucks!" Unless you put up into bold Red letters: "DON'T START SHIT ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU HATE ENGLISH DUBS!"
Cartoon network is trying to be nothing but self produced content. If they didn't make it they don't care. And if a show is popular they run it 15 times a day till it isn't. The people at the top don't care about quality programing. They just care about how cheap can we make it. Also they want to be the disney channel but don't know how. They have some new shows coming that look like they might be good, but if they air them too much we will of course quickly tire of them. They need to plan their programing schedule better so there are more variations and there are block of popular shows, but there is also a lot of different ones so we don't get tired of them from seeing the same episodes over and over again.
6Teen? Really? To tell you the truth, my kind of show is one with a cohesive storyline... and a little bit of unexpectedness, unlike that show's ability to crank out every stereotypical, drama-filled teen happening ever. Then again, that's why I like anime. And am very upset with the way Cartoon Network's been abusing it's anime-ness.
Well, as stated above, it's a great way for me to watch Anime for free and find out what I like and want to buy. Commercials offer good places to go to the bathroom.
I agree if you know it's a show you're going to like, but it's nice to check out shows that you either wouldn't be bothered to track down otherwise or that you don't really know much about so you can check them out for free. But yeah, the ratings to cost ratio really are the issue, especially since they can do just as well with some of the random crap they just slap together.
Tenchi Muyo G Gundam YuYu Hakusho Dragonball (Not Z) Cowboy Bebop Trigun I still say Tenchi is the best dub, with Bebop not far behind.
