Do you like particular toys because you love their car mode? Or do you love their robot mode? Example, Sideswipe being a Lamborghini Countach, Jazz being a Porsche 935, or Alternator Prowl being an Acura RSX and Alternator Jazz being an RX8. Do you buy because you love the car, or would you not buy because the robot mode sucks? Or does either not matter because you love the character?
if i bought because of the car, i'd have a lot of movie bbs as i love camaros, but i have none, i did buy HA sideswipe because of his car mode though
Not usually but I did go absolutely bonkers when I saw Smokescreen as a WRC since I drove a WRX. When I saw Silverstreak as a silver WRX, which I owned back then, I was on cloud nine.
I'd buy Lamborghini based transformers regardless of their robot mode. Other than that I probably wouldn't be tempted.
one of the guys i worked with has a silver wrx, same body-style and all, i brought in silverstreak for him to check out, and he was ecstatic
I was happy enough that it was the next model from mine. I had a 2003 WRX in silver and Silverstreak was the model after. Now I need a 2010 Toyota Highlander for a TF.
It depends sometimes. With the Alternity, Alternators, and Binaltech I only get the ones that are sports cars. With the movie ones I only get the ones that are actually in the movie unless its a cool car. With G1 I was more concerned how the bots looked. I passed on G1 combiners like Bruticus, Superion, and Menasor because how they looked. Didn't like G1 Ultra Magnus either. Didn't like Scorponk's colors and got Black Zarak instead.
I think the vehicles are a part of the character, like I won't buy a Jazz if he didn't resemble a Porsche. But I don't necessarily buy TF figures just because I like the vehicle. I think movie Deluxe Sideswipe may be the only exception. It's ultimately about the robots, though.
both. I usually will buy really anything that doesn't suck but even then i bought Universe Galvatron and Cybrertron Backstop.
A cool car mode cannot be underrated. I still think that one of the contributing factors to the decline of G1 in the late 1980s was the move toward more generic or, charitably, "futuristic" vehicle modes.
While I get them for the robots, I much prefer toys that use real vehicles for their alt modes, such as the G1 Diaclone molds, Alternators and Alternity. I would say early G1 had better car modes, while today we have better robot modes (and in the case of many Alternities and Alternators, both)
robot mode for me. Although, I will say I bought the WRX rally car transformer simply because I also owned a blue wrx.
Call me Crazy but my main attraction to Alterntiy prime was the GTR vehicle mode. However, his bot mode is fantastic also
It usually varies from figure to figure. But I suppose I have bought some for the alt-mode. Case in point being the recent HFTD Scout Hubcap. What I like most about this little guy is he turns into a old timey roadster.
I bought Movie Overcast specifically for his alt-mode when I saw him in the store. That jet mode is just plain cool. I didn't even know what his robot mode looked like (it's kind of goofy looking, actually. XD ), but I knew I had to have him when I saw that cool jet mode.
If it didn't transform I probably wouldn't want it, so I guess ultimately the bot, but hot cars like Ford GT or Nissan GTR certainly helps.
