As you all certainly know by now, Hurricane Katrina has wreaked terrible havoc in the United States bordering the Gulf of Mexico. Thousands are dead. New Orleans has been all but completely destroyed, and the city is now filled with a "toxic gumbo". The water is ridden with industrial chemicals, gasoline, the dead washed from their crypts (people cannot be buried underground in New Orleans), and those who have perished in the disaster. This not only leaves nearly a million people homeless and jobless, with no belongings, but is setting the stage for a potential environmental and pathological disaster of massive impact. To help rebuild these shattered lives and brighten the day of the affected children as things are stabilized, we are offering a unique form of sale. From today, September 1st, we will be donating up to 10% of every purchase to the relief efforts! You read that right, up to TEN PERCENT of every purchase made here will be donated to help the refugees and cleanup from Katrina. This applies to ALL orders. Foreign, domestic, or even pre-orders are included! NOTHING on the site is excluded! ---EDIT--- We've thought a bit longer about this change in our plans. Instead of merely changing the original sale plan to a donation schedule, we will be donating a full 10% of ALL orders, not just 10% on larger orders. This is in addition to our own personal donations we have made, and other donations already made by us in the name of the site. ------------ Your donations will be divded between providing current Transformers toys to charities providing toys to children who were affected by Katrina, and cash donations to more traditional organizations providing other types of relief. All donations will be specifically designated for the purpose, to ensure that they reach those in need from Katrina. Donations will be split as 40% going to toys, with 60% going to relief organizations. This effort will continue until Wednesday, September 14th, 2005. At that time, the site will be closed to orders so we may finalize our stock and attend BotCon 2005 in Frisco, TX. Consider this a sale in which those needier than yourself can reap important life-saving benefits from the savings! Just wanted to add that while I can't continue this indefinately, as of course it would eventually do real damage to us, this event to raise money will continue in part during our sales at the convention. A good friend and former partner of mine will have us selling a large number of figures, busts, statues, and comics from his personal collection at BotCon 2005. He has generously offered to donate 10% of sales on all these items to be combined with what we raise ourselves through this event at Captured Prey.
