Patrick Stewart on Twitter
I am glad that he still enjoys the role of Picard and is ready to return to it with enthusiasm.
Sounds like he will either be the head of starfleet academy or that they are doing that Next Gen animated series.
Awesome news!!!! I just love Stewart and I sure love Picard! Any form he is back, new live action series or tv show, is more than welcome!
Great to hear. It'll be great to see Stewart back in the role again. Also great that they finally remembered they have other era's to work with besides TOS.
Just hope the producers do it justice...
Yuck. Someone repost my comments from the other thread we had going about this.
It's great honor have him back.
This is the first news that I've heard from the Star Trek franchise in a long, long time that actually sounds promising. And that's coming from someone who was never a huge Next Generation fan. I've really enjoyed the handful of TNG episodes I've seen (maybe about three), but I grew up with TOS, so that's really my Star Trek (especially the TOS movies). I think bringing back Picard is a smarter decision than, say, bringing back old Kirk, considering Patrick Stewart's place in geek culture (and the fact that he's aged better, lol.)
For the past few years, the franchise has been kind of dead to me. It just seems out-of-touch and messy. Star Trek: Discovery (the title alone is worrisome), JJ Abrams' "It's not your dads' Star Trek" reboot series, and Quentin Tarantino's "R rated" Star Trek. None of them are really my cup of tea. This Patrick Stewart project seems promising, so I hope they do it justice.
I hope some characters from the next generation comeback too.
I must be tired. I thought this thread was about Captain Planet.
Anyway, interesting news. I’ll be looking forward to see what they do.
I wish he was going back to TV. No, the series is CBS Access, which is a streaming service. It's a stupid web series hidden behind a pay wall and the main reason I'm not watching Star Trek Discovery. Put it on television and it'd become appointment viewing for me.
So what I understand it is an actual series (not animation), it takes place some twenty odd years after Nemesis and Picard has changed and likely isn't a Captain anymore, but something else. But with Stewart being almost 80 years old, I do wonder to what extent it will really be about his character? Making a television series is hard work with long days. Then again, the man is more fit that I am
I kind of hope that when making this series they don't overwrite the post-Nemesis novels. It shouldn't be that much of a problem: remain captain for a few years, marry Beverly and get a son… that shouldn't be impossible the work in the back history (but I expect they will ignore it).
Will just have to wait and see. That is, if it will be on either local television or Netflix. Not going to get a new streaming just for it.
And likely we won't see it for at least a year or two.
They likely don't have scripts, plots, or even the rest of the cast yet.
So there is a lot to get done.
I hope the next generation characters show up too.
I hope this is good since Picard is my favorite captain, and Patrick Stewart is just great, but I lose more and more confidence the more I hear about the behind the scenes turmoil
Man... if I was CBS I would put all things TREK on hold... shit-can all things BAD ROBOT... flush Kurtzman so that he can pair up again with Orci... and straighten out and align with whatever merger chaos is happening with Paramount and re-effing-boot.
This is the first promising thing I've seen come out of Trek in a long time. It probably helps that I'm a diehard when it comes to TNG and am particularly fond of Riker, Data and Picard (yes, in that order). You know who I'd love to see show up to pester Picard? And this may be cliche to some however... dammit I want more Q!
Gotta say the teaser hyped me a lot. Can't wait for this to happen.
