Just went through a TRU earlier today and saw the Asia GDO figures going buy 2 get 3rd free. I just couldn't do it. I looked at each one, legend, to scout, to deluxe, and voyager, but I just don't like them. I just prefer the classics look. Anyone else passing on them?

 

The only ones I want are Cliffjumper and Springer.

 

Only bought Springer, Bluestreak, Thundercracker, Hoist, Motorbreath, and Laserbeak. Not really interested in the rest.

 

These are the last of the Classics basically...outside the Collector's Club that is. I like most of them. I've got all of them minus Bluestreak, Thundercracker, and the leaders. I've got 3 Hot Spots now, too (1 for Alt mode, 1 for robot mode, and 1 for Reprolabels mode).

 

I'm with you. I've passed on all of these several times already. I even sold everything out of my Ultimate Gift Set except Combat Hero Prime (for the new upgraded Battle Tanker). I know they have new heads, but they are still just repaints to me and I really don't have any interest in any more repaints.

On the bright side, I've been able to get a head start on putting money away for the next wave of new stuff. FOC Starscream and Grimlock, new upgraded Battle Tanker, TFCC Rid Scougre, and FP Menasor.

 

The GDOs were easily the most exciting line for me this year. Every single figure except for CJ, Swerve, Brawl, and Sandstorm has tempted me sorely.

Powerdive is probably my TF of the year. The Legends are all awesome. Laserbeak is... an odd choice, but works surprisingly well (turn his head around and it looks like a cross between his G1 Cybertron head and his DotM head!) and is just a great mold. Wildrider is... well, pretty straightforward, but cool.

 

If Springer was a triple-changer, I'd buy him.

The only ones that I have any interest in are Brawl, Laserbeak and Bluestreak, but I haven't even bought those...

It's just...I don't need Swerve, because I have Kup. Springer is fugly, Cliffjumper's head looks ridiculous on the TFP body, and Wheelie just doesn't really appeal, though his vehicle mode is pretty good. The Voyagers are 'meh' IMO (I really don't understand the obsession with Hot Spot...), and the other smaller figures don't do it for me.

IF my local TRU gets the FoC Combaticons back in stock and I can get a full set, I might snag a Wheelie as my second freebie for the B2G1 deal...already have the TFP FE figures, and my local store doesn't carry regular TFP deluxes anymore it would seem, so my options are limited to the GDOs unless I want a double of something...

 

I only want hotspot, but they never ahve him.

 

The only one I wanted and got was Hoist.

Did pick up a pair of the retooled Starscreams at BigLots though, just for the Starscream shelf.

 

I had only planned on getting GDO Cliffjumper at first since I didn't have the mold...

But I eventually sold myself on Laserbeak, Megatron, Springer, Swerve, and Wheelie. All of them are excellent figures and they all come from molds I really like. Plus the new accessories like Wheelie's slingshot and Springer's sword really add a surprising amount of play value to them. Megatron with swords is badass, and I honestly feel like Swerve, Springer, and Laserbeak all make the best use of the molds yet.

With the $20 Groupon as well as the B2G1Free deal going on, you can get three of the deluxes for 10 bucks altogether, and that's a pretty excellent deal for these guys, I'd say.

 

I'm liking my 3ps more...Survivalist vs. GDO Wheelie, FP Defender vs. GDO Springer, eventually iGear Veer vs. GDO Swerve, Classics CJ w/ Beelzebos upgrade vs. GDO CJ, I can gladly skip the GDO which just look wrong.

The only GDO's I dont' have are Swerve, Megatron, Powerdive, and the leaders. I think I'm good with where I'm at. Might pick up Swerve if I ever see him at retail, but I'm not too worried about him.

 

The thing about the "they're just repaints to me" thing is that they're repaints of figures that were often hard to find. Either figures that were just plain tough to find in the first place, or else Market Six exclusives that not everyone has access to.

I saw Skystalker and Highbrow once at retail.

CJ's mold was only released domestically as... an even rarer TRU exclusive and an SDCC exclusive.

Bludgeon and the rest of the Scouts and Deluxes were pretty easy to find, admittedly.

Inferno's mold had... an interesting history. He was impossible to find for a while, then fairly easy to find. But then you've got the fact this is a frankenstein of Inferno and Grappel, who was again a Market Six exclusive.

The Legends molds were pretty much exclusively available at Ross/etc, which some people don't have access to. And these are remolds with G1 accurate weapons, which is amazing.


Say what you will about the quality of the individual figures, but I just think GDO was a great idea. They're not going to clog shelves, they show both that Hasbro is willing to try to woo collectors, and their success is a sign to Hasbro that collectors are a bigger market than they think.

 

I totally understand why folks hated them (because of the movie designs) but...., the more I saw photos, and the more I tried to hate them, they slowly creeped their way into my interests list of must haves. All of them will be mine.

I wanted to hate them, i really did try.

But the addict within me craved them, needed them, had to have them.

Wheelie is the only one I have right now, but as of this Saturday I will own them all thanks to a fellow local and board member here.  

 

Springer is actually a really great fig as long as you mistransform the legs and don't leave the wings folded up over his head. Perfect coloring, a nice head sculpt, and a cool alt mode.

PLUS you can mod on a third mode pretty darn easily.

 

I bought Hot Spot, Powerdive, Swerve and Wheelie. I also bought Wildrider until a better one comes along, and Laserbeak and Brawl mainly to use as troop builders, not to use as representations of those characters. The rest don't work at all so I passed on them.

 

Only one I want is Hot Spot.

I bought Springer not too long ago, and I think he's great. If you mistransform the feet so his heels are his toes and vice versa, he doesn't look bad at all. I've got him posed with my Classics, and he really does fit in.

I don't own any of the other GDO guys, but I've been tempted. Megatron is staring at me with his "I love the Bludgeon mold" face, but I'm not sure if I'll get him, since I'm not convinced that particular mold works for Megs.

Wheelie looks okay, I guess, but I'm not that tempted to get him, partly because I'm not the biggest fan of the Jazz mold, partly because I've heard the Slingshot causes clearance issues in the vehicle mode, and partly because Wheelie should be small.

I really, really wanted the Cliffjumper mold, but I only JUST got a Terrorcon Cliffjumper, and I can't really justify to myself getting the EXACT same mold for the same character so soon. Plus, I just bought a Classic Cliffy yesterday.

I guess I can see why some would oppose them, but I think they're okay. Springer, at least, is pretty awesome. The sword is nice.
