Grimlock's dino mode is giving me hard Glavenus/Dinovaldo vibes with the sword tail and I am 1000% on board with it

 

Reminds me of a Zoids and I love it  

 

Others are good, but I felt Grimlock's transformation is way too simple.
There is no transformation at all for his lower body, the legs, the tail, all the same.
While the upper body transformation is just bare minimum.

 

Omg, you're right. Grim's sword looks the exact same say for the little cut-out at the tip of the blade. Other than that, it's identical lmao

 

yes; god forbid we have a square inch of 3P on the market that isn't absolutely "G1-authentic."

 

I mean, Cheetor and just beast-like designs in general did that. It's not like the legs doing nothing is a bad thing, and besides, these are only design sketches. They'll probably make them do something in the end result.

 

A simpler transformation probably for the best honestly, considering he also has to be combiner bits (probably torso) and this could make him more sturdy and not risk ending up being an explosion held together by scotch tape

 

Slag or Sludge would work better imo, but I definitely see where you're coming from

It's very unlikely that CangToys will change the head designs to resemble the G1 heads... They often say on Weibo: if you don't like it, don't buy it, which imo is perfectly fine, they have the right to do what they want and you to buy what you want, as simple as that.

You mean the toy versions with gold Grimlock, red Scorn, purple Slag etc.? Yeah, that would unironically be much better for these designs.

 

I think it's less about being G1 accurate and more about how the arms into TRex legs is one of the coolest transformation ideas in all of transformers and every incarnation of Grimlock that turns into a beast has had that feature, so if they're going to do away with it, they'll need to replace it with a different, equally interesting, design feature. And it doesn't look like this will have that

It could be argued that the neat replacement feature is combination, and I understand that the design most likely changed to make a more solid torso mode easier, but like man, at least hide the robot arms somewhere inside the beast mode. Having the robot arms become his TRex arms just doesn't work imo. He look like he just leans forward and put a dinosaur head on to transform

 

Well color me interested on those beast modes.

 

I saw this on the front page and was expecting all the G1 purists to come in complaining. Glad to see the general response seems to be mostly positive. Last thing I want is for these designs to change. I absolutely love the aesthetic, and while I'm sure some things will need to be altered in the transition to plastic, I don't want the final product to deviate too far from what we see here.
Regarding G1 heads... I wouldn't be opposed, but I worry that if they're too G1-esque it would clash way too much with the current aesthetic. If they can inject some G1 head motifs into the anime super robot designs they have going, sure. But just sticking G1 heads on would look terrible if you ask me. I'm fine with the current heads.

Oh god no. Grimlock's G1 transformation scheme has been done to death.
