Same here. I didn't grow up with G1 in the same way a lot of people here did, so I'm in on the toys more for the "cool robot" aspect than trying to represent particular characters from Transformers history. Something about combiner teams doubly works for me—you've got a squad of specialized, transforming giant robots that are each powerful in their own right, but then they can merge into an even BIGGER giant robot for heavy conflict? Sign me up!

It's for the same reason that I'm not just okay with, but actually looking forward to Mr. Baboon Boxers as another member of the Predacons. Assuming the designers at Cang Toys are competent enough to make Predaking work, the more robots in the gestalt, the more interesting it is to me, in addition to rounding out the team.

I did grow up with G1, but I feel the same way you do. For me, the new transformers toys are hitting me more on the wish fulfillment side of my childhood rather than the nostalgia.

Do you like them as characters or just the combining concept?

True combiners should be made out of the combiner team members and very few accessories, pantsforming defeats that concept for simplicity and aesthetics, to the point where the "torso bot" is not functional.

    Pantsformers are almost 50% fake.

It's a play on words of Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London".

It's a rock song from 1978. Before your time apparently. It's a classic.

Well yeah. I'm not in my 50's. My parents pretty much only listened to 80's hairband rock.

Believe me, the irony of me coming to that decision with that under my name is NOT lost on me, lol. Mostly it's just that I'd rather have an extra team member than a useless pair of pants lying around if I DO decide I want a giant ass Predaking.

    You poor thing...

It is played to death during Halloween. Easily Z's most famous song, though far from his best.

I like them as both the character and the concept (a new individual being 'made' by 5/6 other individuals), but only the combiners that I am familiar with by watching the G1 cartoon in the 80's. It kinda ended for me at Computron and Abominus, later combiners like Piranhacon and Raiden are not going to be in my collection, because I have no connection to those characters.

Combiners are partsformers and I totally am in favor of pantsformer, because I have experienced myself how MP-scale combiners can be without it (UT and MMC Bruticus), and they are just subpar floppy messes. As I said before though, I get why people want as little parts as possible, and I am happy for them there is a company out there who is providing that, they just won't get my money. ;)

Good for you, but not even Takara or Zeta (what a surprise) like Pantsformers for their MP combiners. So your only hope now are Fanstoys and XTB.

So far, Assaultus is the closest to a perfect combiner I have ever seen, and Maximas Pro is even better!

Have you seen Zeta’s combiners? Pantsformers all the way, and very stable.

yep, old discussions/arguments due to no new information. all I will say is combiners are, by their very definition, partsformers, so why limit ourselves? I look at it this way, Prime's trailer disappears when not in use, Megatron's gun parts disappear when not being used, so why can't the combiner parts do the same?
