Just to show video games aren't easy to make and work can go to waste.
    • Mortal Kombat: Fire and Ice - This was supposed to be the sequel to Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, and was meant to come out on the Xbox 360 and PS3. The game was prototyped to test the next generation graphics engine. The game was cancelled when Midway went bankrupt. Ed Boon does have an interest in a sequel, so it's possible it might come out, but not as the original vision.
    • Shantae - Shantae had multiple games that were reworked or cancelled. The first is Shantae for PS1 and PC. The game would of been of 2.5 platformer, with 3D background and fully animated 2D character models. The game was moves to gameboy. Another cancelled Shantae game was a 3D platformer for PS2, but was also cancelled. A Gameboy Advanced version of the first game, and Risky's Revenge was meant to come out on a cartridge before being moved to the DSi shop. Beta + Cancelled shantae Video Games - Unseen64
    • Halo - Halo was originally planned to be multiplatform, coming out on the PS2 as well as the Xbox and PC. Microsoft bought out Bungie, and Halo ultimately became an Xbox exclusive. Halo DS was another Halo game planned for release, and used the engine of Goldeneye: Rogue Agent to pitch the game to Microsoft. It was also cancelled. Halo Chronicles was an episodic game, similar to Telltale games and to be written by Peter Jackson. It was in development for 3 years, before being cancelled. Halo: Chronicles Halo DS

"Thrill Kill" is one that always sticks out for me. Teenage me was so excited for the concept of this game, I was considering buying a PlayStation just for this. On hindsight, I should of bought a PS anyway, but the disappointment of the cancellation irked me for a while.

It was a difficult game to develop.
It was the first video game ever created to get the Adults Only rating by the ESRB, the developers were forced to make edits, so it could get the more profitable Mature rating.
Then, EA bought the company and they were so disgusted by the game they cancelled it and made it so they could never get another publisher to publish the game. Shows EA was even scummy in the 90s.
The game is online if you want to play it.

I would love to see the original Resident Evil 4,when it was about this haunted mansion, but instead they made that stupid action game with the Las plagas virus.

Resident Evil 4 could of had more action elements, but was changed when Capcom felt "it wasn't Resident Evil."
That game did come out, and it's called Devil May Cry.

The game was finished. Its release was just cancelled. My budy had a copy of it and could only be played on modded PS at the time.

It can be downloaded online too. There is an adults only and mature version.

There's supposedly 4 versions of RE4 that were binned before the final one. Kamiya's one which turned into DMC, a second one which was scrapped and had some of its work recycled into Demento/Haunting Grounds, the third one from the bonus DVD footage which got scrapped because it ended up being beyond the limitations of the GC hardware and a fourth that we've never seen that Mikami scrapped when he decided to direct the game himself because it was another rehash of the previous games.

I'd say it all worked out pretty well in the end since RE4 is fucking awesome and we got DMC as well, which pretty much begat the whole character action genre.

The game was also almost an Xbox exclusive, until a disastrous meeting caused the game to be exclusively released to Nintendo Gamecube and PS2 later on.

I hope this qualifies in this thread...

One game I wanted the most back in the day was TMNT II: The Arcade Game for NES. Nintendo Power had a preview with a couple of screenshots that I used to stare at for a long time. One of the screenshots was of the first level, and showed Raphael attacking. The turtle sprite was notably larger than the final game, and the animation frame didn’t make it to final game either.

I was honestly disappointed with the game’s graphics when it finally came out, because they didn’t look as good as this preview photo. I’ve read about TMNT II prototypes that have been dumped online, but all of them are almost identical to the final game. I just want to see this particular prototype in action.

Nah, resident evil 4 had 3 versions before the actual game and dmc was one of the versions. The one from the video is not what was to become dmc.

Speaking of Mega Man, how about those Mighty No 9 ports that Comcept stole our money for and never delivered?

Starwars battlefront 3. Long before the EA reboot of the series, there was going to be a third part of the series that had a few what-if story modes. It was cancelled because it didn't meet its 2010 deadline.

Darth Kenobi was going to be so hype.....
