I love 1984-87 but kind of hate 88-90 transformers?
Because we didn't have the term g1 when I was a kid (well I think robotech did)

A geewunner is someone who likes G1 but only G1 and most things directly or somewhat related to it (like the comics) and dislikes or hates everything else. So no, you're not a geewunner.

The term "Geewunner" isn't about subjective preference along the lines of "I like G1, but if you like Armada, that's good for you".

"Geewunner" refers to a vocal group of people who insist that G1 is objectively superior to everything else that came after it, everything since the end of G1 is "not real Transformers" and anyone who likes a Transformers series that's not G1 isn't a "true fan".

So if you allow people to have different tastes than you and get along with them just fine, you're not a Geewunner.

If you want to convince other people that your subjective preference is the only correct position in the world and they are fools for disagreeing with you, you're a Geewunner.

Hang around the 'Unpopular Opinions' thread long enough and you'll see lots of examples of Geewunners.

Not sure, but I have to add that if you like G1 but don't like Beast Wars and voice that opinion, regardless of what other series you like, you're automatically labelled a GEEWUNNER.

Oh about beast wars,I'm 39 so I was kind of ...intoxicated in one way or another throughout the whole 90s,didn't buy any toys (although I can remember being vaguely fascinated by g2 megatron when I saw him at a store)
But the only transformers I truly dislike are the last few years of g1,movie verse skids and mudflap, and animated.

Wouldn't a gewunner be born in the late 70s and early 80s

Interesting. I always considered myself a "Geewunner" so to speak simply due to the fact that's my favorite Transformers' continuity. But, ridicule others for preferring later iterations of TF I do not. I could honestly care less what folks other than myself enjoy. To each his/her own! Until your post though, I had no idea that term had such negative connotations within the community. To borrow a line from one of my other favorite '80's cartoons G.I. Joe..."now I know and knowing is half the battle!"

Not necessarily. The term states that it is an individual who believes all continuities other than G1 and its associates are essentially demeans everything afterward as not being 'real transformers' and subsequently demeans others who watch those franchises as not being 'true fans'

I wasn't born in that time period, but I imagine that if I were able to totally alter my mindset into focussing solely on G1, despising every continuity that came after and insisting my opinion was the absolutely correct one, I would be classified as a geewunner.

In addition to Transformers....G.I. Joe, MOTU, M.U.S.C.L.E., Garbage Pail Kids, GoBots, Smurfs, and later on TMNT for me. I really enjoyed the Thundercats cartoon too, but don't recall amassing a collection of the toys as a child. Now as an adult, it's a different story however!

Someone born in the early 80s would be way too young to buy a soundwave ,Optimus prime, etc right off the shelf.

For some reason I associate MOTU with 1981/82 ,I collected gobots before I knew what a transformer was (my mom went to the store and said "I couldn't find any gobots but maybe you'll like this" and pulled soundwave out of a bag,I never liked gobots after that moment)
