You can't copyright a name. You can Trademark a name, but that doesn't prevent others from using the name - they just can't advertise the name, or make money selling something specifically labelled with the trademarked name. This is why DC's Captain Marvel is marketed under the name Shazam. Inside the pages, he's still called Captain Marvel, but on the cover, or anywhere it is being advertised, DC cannot use the name, and uses Shazam.
