How often do you find yourself buying Transformer stuff that maybe you don't really want or need, or probably shouldn't buy it now because of certain finances--BUT, you know that if you don't get it now, it's only going to go up in price later. And I don't mean for those who buy it for that value..to be resold when it goes up--I mean to have, keep, open, part of your collection etc..Even though you don't really need/want it right now..it's better to get now at initial cost, more so than wanting it needing it later, after it's gone up..

And if you have..what's been the biggest one you've done like that? And what's the one that you regret waiting on?

My 2 regrets right now are for the BAPE G1 GREEN Optimus Prime which I've still yet to get..and then the 24" Sideshow Optimus Prime which I missed out on when it was 1100$ and now it's up towards 3000$ (fortunately I got one, and for only 1600$...but still would have preferred the 1100$)

The one I'm debating right now is the new chromed jetwing buster Prime..189$ now...or in a few months will it be up in the 300$ or so? What to do what to do..

Wait, there's a chromed Jetwing Prime now too? Or do you mean the Striker Prime?

For me, I bought a RotF Buster Prime for about $145 total from Ebay. I didn't really have the money then, and it was a little bit above the retail cost, but I'm glad i got him, because he's beautiful, and now the prices for him have skyrocketed.

This should be a fun thread.

Generally, any 3rd Party product I try to be right away. However, I really think that's starting to change now that companies have vastly increased their toy runs. I mean you can still buy a TFC Hercules!

My most recent example of passing on an item and then having to rebuy it later at a marked up price: Encore Omega Supreme. I still haven't even fucking opened him, but he was about a $40 increase I believe. Really that's not a big deal, but $40 is $40.

That's sort of a tough one. I really don't usually buy things unless I absolutely want them. The only ones I can think of that would fit this would be:
ROTF Mindwipe who I was extremely iffy on but bought because I liked is vehicle mode and he was $10 on Tru's website. Not sure what he goes for now, but I doubt I'd get him for that again.
WFC Darkside Op and Megatron I wanted this set, but was going to wait to get it since there was no rush. Ended up getting two sets when BBTS had them for $55 or so. Don't regret that decision since I haven't seen it go for that price again.

If I think of more I'll post it but other then that I don't usually buy something unless I do research first (ie watching reviews). I just really don't want to squander money on something that I don't really need.

I preordered the Fansproject Warbot Bundle, am keeping Defender for my TFTM cast display, still unsure of what I'll do with Steelcore and Assaulter. It's kinda ironic that I'm definitely keeping the "weakest" of the three and considering selling the other two, but something's gotta give.

Yeah, pretty much any 3P, if I am slightly interested in, I'd buy right away.

Ditto MP, unless you plan on waiting to see if Hasbro is going to release it.

My guess is that almost all mainline toys and most of 3rd party are headed for lower prices in the medium term. The current crop of toys are not so great once the fiction runs out, so at that time I am betting they hit ebay for cheap(er). There are always exceptions so the trick is guessing what they are. Fansproject stuff seems to be one and so do some of the unreleased in US Japanese molds.

My biggest mistake in the past was letting Transformers blind me to other stuff that is often better. How many waves of TF mainline figures are equal to an SOC? How many times do you need a re-take on a popular charater?

I have 3/5 of TFC's Superion on pre-order at BBTS and I've contemplated canceling to see if I can score them cheaper down the road, whether it be used or as part of a sale on BBTS. I'm basing this on the abundance of TFC Devastator close to a year after its release.

It's hard because you're trying to guess how the market will react to an item and how much time you have to still get it at retail (or lower). I've held off on a few items without worrying about them (MP Black Rodiums, MP Sunstorm, MMC HoS Seekers) because I've been confident they won't sell out by the time I have the funds to acquire them (MP-9B's actually gone down in price at BBTS in the meantime). On the other hand, I prefer picking up FP items, certain other unlicensed/third party releases (when I locked up the TW Rollbar for $58-something on BBTS and the price went up after, I knew I was keeping it barring horrible reviews) and most Takara exclusives I want immediately because aftermarket prices can jump on some of those once the online retailers sell out (perhaps immediately, when preorders sell out).

Any non-Seeker MP toys from TRU, I'm so glad I grabbed Grimlock when I did, also just got the new MP Prime as he is a must have.

Oh I have a few regrets that haunt me every day.

    1) Optimus Prime BAPE green camo - when it was announced I was willing to pay up to $100. When the BBTS preorder came up, it was at $180ish so I sadly declined. Now it's up to way more than that. Should have just grabbed the preorder.
    2) Air Jordan 11 Space Jams 2009 - yeah I know this isn't a TF but this was before Jordans were super chaotic and I had two in my Footlocker.com cart for $160 each but decided at the last minute to skip the release. Now they are worth $400. . .
    3) Preordering MP Megs at $114, now impossible to get him at that price.
