Hey, new here. Anyway I was playing around with the Takara Seacons when suddenly a thought crossed my head. For the '84 to '86 characters we do have a definitive voice from the Sunbow cartoon but once you extend Generation 1 into the toyline/comics-only characters you get a lot of characters who never had a spoken line. The Seacons are an example, barring their Japanese counterparts and even then only Turtler spoke if I recall correctly. So this got me wondering: what do you guys think would be an appropriate voice for various toy-only characters had the cartoon continued to the end of the G1 toyline?
Sadly, my voice actor knowledge is somewhat lacking, but, given the precedent established by the show, probably a quarter of them would be voiced by Frank Welker.
I think he'd make a good Snaptrap, or at least 1-2 members of that team since individual members of a Combiner Team don't always get spotlight. I do think Nautilator would sound absolutely moronic. Not sure how exactly, I just think it would fit to have him sound like every other team member want to do some comedic headslaps on the idiot.
Only one of them had a voice in Japan, and that was a separate character anyways. As for how they would sound in the G1 cartoon, I feel Cullen could make a good Snaptrap, and Welker would be a good Nautilator and/or Skalor. As for the rest, I dunno.
This is a list of who I would have cast as the Seacons. Piranacon: John Rhys-Davies Snaptrap: Aron Kincaid Nautilator: Stanley Ross Overbite: Tony Pope Seawing: Zack Hoffman Skalor: Dick Gautier Tentakil: Andre Stojka
I feel like that would better fit the Beast Wars 2 Seacons. The G1 Seacons in the US are more military-esque, while the Japanese G1 Seacons are more regal(IK only one of them is sentient) but the BWII Seacons are pirates.
Also, another post-87 character casting choice is Bill Martin as Bludgeon. Whenever I read the Marvel comics, I always imagine Bludgeon sounding like Bill's Shredder: http://tfregenerationone.weebly.com/uploads/6/3/4/4/63446209/shredder4.mp3
Scorponok: Frank Welker's Dr. Claw voice. Thunderwing: Destro from the old Gi Joe cartoon. Kick Off: RID Ultra Magnus. Ruckus to me would sound like G1 Thundercracker. Needlenose: 80s Ninja Turtles Michelangelo. Throttlebot Rollbar: War For Cybertron Ironhide. Krok: James Remar Rollout: Jack Burton. They're the same character. Glitch: R2-D2. Spinister: Beast Wars Depth Charge. Skullgrin: Peter Cullen's Cindarr from Visionaries. Bludgeon: I liked his Cyber Missions voice. Stalker: Sounds like G1 Soundwave. Repugnus: Sabretooth from the 90s X-Men cartoon. Cloudburst: James MacAvoy's Xavier. Landmine: Indiana Jones. Crankcase: Rowan Atkinson's Blackadder. Sunstorm: Supernatural nature makes him sound like the Reflectors speaking in unison. Carnivac sounds like G1 Skywarp. Catilla: Sounds like Beast Wars Cheetor. Detour sounds like Rumble. Thunderclash sounds like Sean Connery. Impactor: Stallone's Judge Dredd. Sparkstalker: Peter Lorre Nightbeat: Maurice LaMarche's Brain. Whirl: Stewey Griffin. Death's Head sounds like S-s-slithe, Yes?
Regardless of that, these are supposed to be 80's casting choices as Suboptimal said in the first post. This is for a hypothetical continuation of the G1 cartoon at the time.
G1's cast was so big I can't even remember what characters were toy only. I think it would be interesting to do this with other series though.
The title says "what do you think they sound like?" My suggestions are pretty much how I imagined those characters' voices when reading the comic as a kid.
Yeah, but the first post from Suboptimal clearly states "what do you guys think would be an appropriate voice for various toy-only characters had the cartoon continued to the end of the G1 toyline?" So it's still pretty much casting voice actors of the 80's, since it would be the era from 1988 to 1990.
