I did some minibot reshells a while back, http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/222409-minibot-meyham.html and finished a few more I wanted to share. I used keychain reissues for all of them, and Takara Choro-Q penny racers for the Toyota Trueno, Nissan Skyline, and the School Bus, the cement truck was just a generic penny racer I found in my local car wash. Its the same type I used to reshell Huffer in my previous thread. Since the Skyline was a police car I used a G1 Prowl head for him, the others are Cliffjumper heads, and Bumblebee for the bus. Hope you like!
These are amazing!! I'm loving Bumblebus, We need more Tf's with beerguts! It's as if Bumblee has gotten hold of the matrix....Hot Rod became a Space Caravan, but Bumblebee has more class.
Love parent-company-crossovers of any kind, and this is just the perfect use of the "reshell" technique! Way to flesh out the ranks!
these are friggin' awesome! if they make scion xb penny racers i'll commision you to make me a miny stprime!
Those are awesome! I had the idea of doing that a while ago my self. I have some where a black '89 Honda CRX Choro-Q somewhere that I wanted to do. But didn't have the nerve to cut it up.
Thanks guys! Well it just so happens that I have another Skyline, a blue one, with your name on it. If I find some time next week Ill try to get it done for you! Thanks guys, Ill try to take some WIP pics and maybe do a tutorial so others can give it a shot.
Heres my latest. The head isn't painted yet, but you get the idea. I submitted this to SQ7, so hopfully it will be in the tutorial section soon. *Takara Choro-Q minibot reshell* The first step is to disassemble, of course. The feet are the key part of this project, so start by reassembling the minibot without the arms and head. I first cut the ends off the fenders to keep just the sliding transformation section. Dont cut too much just yet! Heres a photo of the cut fenders compared to the original uncut ones. Next trim the remaining red fender/slide system so the new body will fit over the transformer section. Make sure the head mounting tabs also fit tight to the body, but leave enough room fo the head to fold up. Next is to remove the center where the screw attaches from the original body as close to the top of the body as possible to keep the shaft long. Now, reattach the center screw mounting point to the transformer section, along with the arms. Then trim the shaft, as necessary so it fits the new body. Also, the bottom section of the new body will need to be trimmed for the arms. When your are satisfied with the fit, glue the center shaft in place. After the new body is mounted, cut away the hood/fender section. Then cut the hood/fender section in half and glue to the trimmed red slider sections with everything assembled and transformed in car mode so the gaps stay close. Then trim the rear section until the flip head fits in place. It just takes patience. Take your time and make sure your fitments are precise as possible.
This is simply amazing! I´ll try to do one, just waiting for the choro q´s to arrive actually, already have the keychains (and a few estrela loose also lol). Just a quick question. What did you use to cut the choro q cars? Their plastic is soft enough to use a tamiya hobby knife? Best wishes!
