Bummer. The OG Beetle will always be my favorite car. The '94 New Beetle never clicked for me. But the 2010 version I did like. It's a shame Takara never did a Microchange version of the VW Thing.

Never liked the Beetle. Never liked Bumblebee until Bay made him awesome as a Decepticon killing Camaro.

I assume they mean the new beetle. Not the "Classic" beetle. The Classic beetle ceased production in Mexico in 2003. I would love a brand new classic beetle.
That said, I alsmost want to see this film just because I own a 67' like the bee version in this film. (Although, Bee was a 70's model not 60's)

Michael Bay was more farsighted, choosing Camaro.
Ten inches of snow on the road is strange even for my country. It is better to use subway or snowmobile, when you have so much snow on roads:lol  It's like to ask swiss watch to work after boiling them in the soup.

No offense for the fans of VW Bug, but this is hope for me that Bee will never appear as a VW Bug ever in the movies. Camaro FTW

Wait, did someone say making TFs a "period piece" was a good idea?

No effing way!!!!

So they're saying going RETRO, 80s, or even G1 is a GOOD thing for TFs??? :jawdropper:
Sorry, I just don't understand where they get these radical ideas. Why not let Michael Bay run the brand into the ground by rinse-and-repeating the plot to every movie? :D  I guess Hasbro (or Paramount) can't be wrong if they just spin their original scorn for retro/G1 and claim they're innovators.

Honestly, I really like the Beetle because I'm a huge Herbie fan... but even I'm bugged by this. The only reason it's a Beetle is for fanservice. I doubt there's a story or character reason for why he's a Volkswagen, it's just "well that's what he was in G1!" ...except this isn't G1 Bumblebee. For movie Bumblebee, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

The decision to make him a Beetle has made me extremely skeptic. You're gonna have to give me a doggone good reason for this, and not just hope to cash in on people nostalgia-crazed for the 80s.

Honestly, I'm fine with Bee being a Beetle for the simple fact that I remember people driving them back then, including my own family.

Having said that, the more nostalgic Transformers fiction tries to be, the less likely I am to like it, so I hope the Bee Movie focuses on being less nostalgic and focuses more on being an entertaining Transformers movie.

Apparently. Cause Rotten Tomatoes are the end-all-be-all gods of what is a good movie and what is a bad movie nowadays. (Not aiming disdain of RT towards you).

Goddamnit guys. Seriously?! This was supposed to be nice information as to why Bee is a Beetle again, why it's important, and overall just be a little nice article. This thread is harmless, but it's movie related, so it just had to be negative. Some of you guys just have to be asses about it, don't you?

Interesting article, I didn't even realize that classic Volkswagen Beetles are still being made. I've never really had a desire whatsoever to own an expensive sports car (I'm fine with anything cheap that runs well), but I've always thought it would be neat to own a classic Beetle. Not just because of Bumblebee, but because they're unique looking cars. Every time I see that promotional picture of Bumblebee it makes me want a car just like that. Maybe some day I'll make it happen.

To be fair it was implied that Bumblebee scanned a Camaro to specifically appeal to Sam Witwicky (it was the only car in the lot that stood out to him). Maybe he learned of Sam's taste in cars through the internet, that's kind of the way I see it at least. (Also the line about "cars choosing their drivers".) If this is the case it wouldn't really make sense for him to be a Camaro in the '80s before Sam was even born, that would be a huge coincidence.

Since they can't make him a Camaro, I don't really see why he can't be a Volkswagen. We saw him as a Mercedes in TLK, which is a very different car. At the rate Bee changes his disguise, this is probably just one of many cars he's been over the decades. There's definitely a fanservice aspect here (which I'm fine with since I love G1 Bee), but I think it makes sense from an in-universe perspective too.

And for those of us fans that it's supposed to speak to, we hate the bay movies and finally making Bee a bug doesn't change the fact that he has a literal gag in his mouth and that his character should be small and by no means a killing machine. All it does is poison the well for a proper 1980s Transformers movie. 10+ years of this ugly Bayverse.

They aren't. As I explained on the previous page, production of the classic Volkswagen Beetle ceased in Mexico in 2003.

The car that will cease production next year is the current model officially called the "Volkswagen Beetle" (the classic model was only nicknamed "Beetle", or "Käfer" in German, this one is actually named that, even using the English word "Beetle" as its official German name), which is the successor to the Volkswagen New Beetle, which in in turn was the sueccessor to the classic Beetle.

    So again, the lineage is:
1938-2003 - original "Volkswagen" aka "KdF" car aka Volkswagen Type 1 aka Volkswagen "Beetle" (nickname) aka Volkswagen "Käfer" (German nickname)
1997-2010 - Volkswagen New Beetle (official name)
2011-2019 - Volkswagen Beetle (official name)
