Smart move on Paramount's part. Even if/when it bombs by box office tally standards, it'll still more than make back that kind of small budget and be "profitable" for the studio.
70 million is scary small. Obviously most of the budget is gonna be spent on Bee but I hope we an appropriate cast of other Bots too. This is probably the last chance to see Starscream & Soundwave. I want those two in this movie.
I think only Bee and Barricade should be in this. I like Soundwave but did a lot of fans get upset that bee killed him?
Yes, yes they did. Very upset. I was fine with DOTM killing off every big-name Decepticon when it came out because that was the "last" Transformers movie. Obviously not the case now. I could see Soundwave providing intel and orders to Barricade from space in a few scenes. Hell, I'd be fine with them reusing all of his shots from ROTF.
It was always going to be lower budget regardless of what TLK did. And remember there's a tax break of 22 million, and the first movie was done on a budget of 150 million and had plenty of CG. So there's enough budget for a few bots and plenty ofaction.
As mentioned, I think people are more upset in retrospect since the movies are still going on yet every major Decepticon is dead.
the budget seems fine. You have Bumblebee and one Decepticon (possibly two), it's going to be a smaller film, make sense to me.
Basically, confirms Bumblee and the other Transformers will once again be side/background characters with no more than 2 minute long fight scenes and no development. That budget is pitiful for a film like this. They are honestly just afraid as hell cause Bay is not directing, as if people only go for Bay instead of the giant robots.
Yea I wish we knew the exact budget that went directly towards CGI in the previous films so we could compare. If we have a very very small robot cast then maybe this budget is reasonable for a good amount of screen time.
Actually is ok since this is Travis Knight first live action movie, we need to see his direction and boxoffice result first, because its kind of risk. From this 70 million budget i believe there will be within 5 robots in the movie, which is good because we don't need any global destruction, we just want to see robots fight robots only, thats it, no need waste budget on other unnecessary decepticons fighter jet, nightship and cybertron etc.
Honestly if Travis Knight is anything like he is on this interview. Then I'll say that I am okay with who is behind the movie. I think around 4:00 is where I feel confident from then on when they talk about audiences.
I'd expect Bumblebee to be in car mode a lot more. This is where they should get away from the Bayformers designs and get closer to more traditional looks where most of the bot is covered by panels and the only really mechanically parts are the joints. ILM doesn't have to go overboard with all the little moving parts inside. I remember for the 2007 movie, they boasted that Ironhide's guns had hundreds or maybe thousands of individual parts. WTF? Why, its not like anyone will see anything but the outside of it.
I hate to be that person but...everyone hoping for Soundwave and Starscream etc. are setting themselves up for disappointment from Day 1. Save yourself the pain and letdown and just expect Bumblebee and nobody else for now.
