If anyone is wondering why, there is the annual Metro Manila Film Fest that happens every December around Xmas time. The government suspends showing of any foreign films so that the local films participating in the filmfest will be the ones shown in the theatres to help the flagging film industry of the Phils. It would not be such an issue if only the quality of the films being shown is really questionable quality or just 2-hour long product placements by local actors/film companies. Imagine seeing a scene set in a McDonald's restaurant and the one actor breaking the 4th wall, saying I'm loving it and winking at the audience. And this film is a drama one!

the last MMFF film I watched was Feng Shui 2, which I was dragged to by my sister. IIRC there was blatant product placement to some kind of lightbulb and a meat product... either way film wasn't even that scary. I ended up laughing my way through the entire thing (dying via your chinese zodiac may have been a good idea on the drawing board, but sometimes you just have to laugh at the absurdity of it)
