That does remind me, Lego does have some fun advertising that reminds me of this. They Always show the models in the same consistent colors (photoshopped) but in real life some of the plastic colors end up being inconsistent within the same color. Like maroon and yellow.

All companies love being deceptive, it’s how you sell stuff.

 

Like Transformers nowadays, the box images are CG now.

The inconsistency in colours stems from the fact that Lego is produced in multiple different factories all over the world now. Environmental conditions and supply variations will result in those inconsistencies. And then completely unavoidable, that some people like to get worked up about, is when there are minor hue differences between different types of parts (usually, between System and Technic), because there's actually different types of plastic involved, with different UV reactivities and dye absorbtion.

 

Arcee looks really good. I like her face here better than how it looks on the SS figure. Honestly, I think it's because the eyes aren't movie accurate. It really does wonders for the facial design when the eyes are large and bright instead of tiny soulless dots.

 

Yeah that definitely makes sense, but there are real issues atm with their colors. Like dark red is inconsistent in color in bricks in the same set with the same parts. And now they have issues with clear pieces being inconsistent in hue, despite it being the same piece. Idk what’s going on over there atm for that to get through.

 

It used to bug me when model images were painted compared to the real thing, it is deceptive to a degree for sure, however once you figure it out once, you pretty much catch on for all model kits after that.
When I was like 10, it duped me pretty good into then asking my folks for $100+ model kits and then after getting it and gradually assembling, it hits home.

Tbh I suck at painting and this is why I'm not a fan of model kits, even if I didn't paint it. That said, the most recent windblade looks surprisingly good for something unpainted. If the plastic is good looking, it can mean that you at least get a super articulate, hyper accurate non-transformable figure that presents like any other (mostly mainline) transforming figure, so it ain't all bad.

 

It's exactly as I said. The parts are being minted in multiple factories, and then conglomerated into sets at a central site.

 

Hm… that’s worrisome. They didn’t have the issues a few years ago. Hope they figure it out because they are regarded as a “premium” toy for kids and it sucks to see it getting worse recently.

It was probably too late into production, if I had to guess. Even the gray prototype they showed a while ago had it.

Because it's based off the concept art, not the final version.

And sure, the Studio Series figures kind of make these a bit redundant if you only want to get ONE representation of the character, but for me, having a bunch of 5 inch-or-so figures with neat stands still sounds appealing to me. Even moreso if they can get those TLK models out.

 

Where have these gone up for pre-order previously?

 

Your typical places; BBTS, Amiami, HLJ, etc.

 

Because that's not the model they had to work from.

 

Whilst these look great, my personal experience with Trumpeter kits are less than satisfactory.. lol

 

Show.Z as far as I know. HLJ gets them eventually but only long after they initially release.

That's just the consequence of the demand for Lego. They've been forced to use multiple manufacturing plants to maintain volume. If they get so nitpicky as to reject minor hue variations, then they'd never stay afloat of that demand.

 

Eh idk it’s not really minor hue values though. It’s stuff like a blue clear piece ending up looking almost green.

 

The point being that they ain't throwing that shit out just because someone wants to be picky about it. It's something the can look to improve on when there aren't other major priorities to deal with, but it's ultimately a matter of very little importance to their bottom line. You'll never be very successful if perfection is your bare minimum.

 

That is true, but They’re the ones that advertise “only the best is good enough” as their motto. So I mean… should probably try to actually fix it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
