With the Bumblebee Movie already on theaters, several artists have started to share some great concept art and early ideas for the movie. We have a very interesting and reveling approach to the creative process of this movie.

Man some of those Decepticon designs are unsettling tbh. Glad they settled on what they did.

I really dig this design for Bee’s head though, looks dope

I'm pretty sure these are actually for the upcoming GoBots movie.

Man those decepticon designs are cool. Too bad the toyline has shied away from doing random characters like they used to.

I'd love to see a new HftD style line with a bunch of crazy robot designs in it.

I've said it before (and the new movie proved it), its not the designs that are the problem. Its the story and the way those designs are presented that are the problem.

Ugh, those head close ups look awful and way too much like Tahu's mask from BIONICLE taken in a really weird and unpleasing direction.

Also, that one totally just just Whirl.

I must be in the minority, I think they look amazing! Alien robots don't need humanoid features.

That green one... Ranger... He could bmake a good lackey for Lockdown. Could have made a somewhat decent Lockdown proper given some tweaks.

You know, I happen to agree with you here. Some of these concepts are uglier than anything in any finished Transformers film, including that Bumblebee concept art in the front page and in the second post of this thread. Maybe not worse than the "Trader Bot" concept art from The Last Knight, but it's up there in its own way.

I suppose some of these Decepticon concepts could potentially work for Cybertronian drones or sentries used on Cybertron, but other than that, no way. Bleh.

There's so much about this concept that makes no sense, yet, I also kind of...Like it?...Well, no I don't. But, there's a slightly neat idea here.

I think ultimately it could be cool to have a jet former that transforms with the nose cone being the left shoulder and half of the torso like that. Maybe have the wings drape down like a half cape on the other side...I donno.

I strongly disagree, he might actually be my new favorite concept artist associated with Transformers. His robots look alien, but they accomplish that without just cramming a bunch of small parts together. They actually look like functional machines that could have been built on a different planet, similar to the Star Wars droids (which he was supposedly inspired by). That's an aesthetic I've always thought would be really cool to see in Transformers.

They are well drawn and interesting, just not my cup of tea for the transformers franchise, they just look like generic sci-fi robots, not so much like they transform into anything. All cool if you like it though.

If you're thrown off by how wild the concept art looks, then just remember: these are just a sampling from dozens if not hundreds of variations. You do a bunch of iterations and then come to settle on which elements work and which don't and then take that to the next. For example, the red lightning mouth might be where the idea for Dropkick's green lightning cheeks came from. Or the hex grid on Bee's battle mask.

Most of these look terrible. What we ended up with were by far the better choices. Hell, I’d take most of the Bayverse designs over ANY of the “decepticon warrior” pieces. Especially the disproportionate animated Lockdown ripoff.

Looks like they were planning to go with the lore TLK set up and ultimately ditched it? Good choice.

I’m actually a big fan of the situation room and Megatron concepts (though he should’ve been smaller), and I wonder why they chose to abandon it. Megatron’s absence in the movie was puzzling, especially with Sector Seven’s headquarters. I suppose they couldn’t show him off to the Decepticons, but if they had just said something like “yeah we probably shouldn’t tell em about NBE-1 over there,” that wouldn’t be an issue.

This whole thing where they can’t decide if it’s a prequel or not really bothers me. But it’s suffering from even more continuity errors if it is indeed a prequel, and it’s being held back for no reason if it isn’t. Just choose one already.

Speaking of the Bumblebee movie, does anybody know the exact spot they filmed at for the location of Charlie\'s house?

While I think all of this concept art is beautiful, I don\'t think the decepticon character designs would have worked for a transformers movie.
