Just wondering, do you think Bumblebee shows us that Bayhem is not always necessary in a transformers movie, or it shows otherwise, that we miss some bayhem in transformers movie

While the actions are great and very clear, I wish there were more of them. The big actions in the movie are just in the beginning and the end (and they are very short too, except maybe the last battle) , which are disappointing for those who look for actions in this movie. Let's face it, people watch transformers movie for action. If they don't get that, of course they'll be disappointed. Sure bee has better plot, humor, and characters, but those aren't big selling point of transformers movie. By this I don't mean bee has to be more like bayformers, what I mean is it'd be nice if they can balance between the amount of actions and those aspects I mentioned earlier. Infinity war did this splendidly. It has plenty of actions, but also character moments, drama, humor and other things. Granted IW's runtime is longer, but if bee's cute moments were trimmed down a bit you can add actions or maybe extend the duration of each existing actions.

Oh yeah, I wish shatter's and dropkick's character was fleshed out more.

Agree, but instead of cutting the drama part I would prefer slightly longer runtime.

Bumblebee had less action than Bay’s movies for sure, but in exchange the action was better

I mean, imagine a Bay film where the camera doesn’t shake every single time, has actual fight choreography and not just a bunch of alien scrap metal bashing each other, and you can feel satisfaction for a villain’s defeat/death because they had personalities you could like/hate. Now that’s what Bee’s final battle was like to me.

Oh, I liked the action in Bumblebee far better than any of the action in Bay's movies. Bay's action is probably a more intricate, but I've never really felt a sense of intensity during it. There was less action in Bumblebee overall, so when it finally happened it felt more satisfying to me. Also, I thought the choreography was more creative and fun in Bumblebee. They actually used transformations as attack/defense moves and whatnot. I feel like Travis Knight took advantage of the premise far more than Bay did. Despite being generally impressive action scenes, I can't say a lot of Bay's individual fights really stick with me.

Although this isn't to knock Bay. I honestly feel like Hollywood action movies are getting more and more overblown, to the point that a lot of action is starting to feel kind of generic. I'd argue the same is true of some of the Marvel movies, that the action is just kind of forgettable. Bumblebee's creative battles made me realize just how lacking in unique fight scenes many other movies this year were.

I think it was about right. The opening scene on Cybertron followed shortly by the Blitzwing fight was a nice long action piece.

Would have been nice to see Shatter and Dropkick fight Cliffjumper for a bit.

It needed a set piece in the middle...and no the lame police chase isn’t really a action scene
Both Decepticons has awesome car modes but were wasted. What did they do in their car modes!?
When I saw these two muscle cars I thought there has to be a chase between car and them...if they had a set piece where the two Decepticons chase bee before bee getting away in the middle (meaning they discover bees location earlier in the movie) it would have felt more complete

I was perfectly happy with the amount of action in the film. The story was good enough to carry my interest in the film throughout.

Every single action scene in Bumblebee was unique, well choreographed and, perhaps most importantly, memorable. That’s something none of the previous movies can claim.
As an example, I’ve seen 06 possibly over ten times and I still couldn’t tell you anything about the third act battle except for that very short exchange of Optimus and Megatron shooting eachother. I can’t even remember who it is that kills Brawl and while I remember Bumblebee fighting a Decepticon while being towed by Michaela, I couldn’t tell you if it was Brawl or Blackout. Compare that to Bumblebee, where I can remember absolutely everything about all the action scenes. They may have been shorter but they were a million times more coherent and memorable.

Optimus fighting the Seekers and Ravage was pretty much exactly at the mid-point. Not a long action scene, but a quality one.

Well, they really tried to push the cuteness factor of Bumblebee, so they spent screen time exploring that- like him curling up in the corner after first meeting Hailee, sneaking into the house and wrecking the place, practicing battle strategies on the beach and hiding behind an itty bitty rock, and dusting Hailee off- they really wanted to explore his bonding with her/ how cute and innocent he could be with her- they wanted to push the emotional button and tug on the audience's strings.

I feel like they put the battles in there because it IS a Transformers movie, and you can't have Autobots without Decepticons, so they had to create a plot that would open opportunities for battle- which they did very well in my opinion.

I feel they put in just enough battle and bot bloodshed to remind us that even though Bumblebee has his childlike moments: He can still kick ass and get down to business when it counts.

When it came to Bumblebee, I kind of felt like I was watching one of those movies where a dog bonds with a human, they start doing everything together, really connect, and then a mountain lion or something comes along, tries to harm the human, but the dog protects them.

    Bumblebee = Dog
    Hailee = Human
Shatter and Dropkick = Mountain Lions

And ya know what: It worked. Beautifully. I really enjoyed it. ^_^

not really that’s a 1 minute scene that is clearly the first cybertron scene cut in half.

They had 3 scenes of bee been cute:
    Beach scene
    Egg throwing scene
    Home wrecking
They should have cut one and made added another action scene
3 scenes all depicting the same information: bumblebee is cute and bonds with Charlie...was too much. There is a middle 30 minutes stretch that had no action

Was the movie lacking in terms of action? I'd say so. Cybertron and final fight were the only things that really gripped me.
But what action there was, was good. I just wish there was more of it.

Funny you should say BB is like a dog in a dogs movie, watched his with my bro and he said it reminded him of the Beethovan mvies

Agreed, Charlie had a great actor and all... but still too much drama around her vs TF screen time

Steady cam was nice... you can actually remember the character models and fight sequences

Agreed. The cybertron sequence was really the only scene i enjoyed but I feel there couldve been more. Pretty sure one of the trailers had the classic prime jump like in ‘86 movie but i dun remember it in da movie.

Still way too much human scenes and not enough tf action.

Did i really wanna watch Charlie struggle with diving off a cliff and teen peer pressure? Then go TP a house with BB?

I get it, part of her character development to overcome her fear for diving... but still...

And that last scene where BB becomes a Camaro just to cement this is canon... felt so forced...

The movie had exactly the right amount of action.

If they'd thrown in another action scene just to have it, it would've derailed the story. The Cybertron scenes already felt somewhat tacked on and were the least favourite parts of everyone I know besides me who went and saw it, but every action scene that was in the movie served a purpose for the plot, and because it was so light on action it felt all the more intense at the end when Bumblebee gets into a real fight again. Shoving it pointless action is what Bay did to pad out the films because they had nothing going on, but this movie actually had a story and an emotional connection, you shouldn't want to compromise that for more mindless spectacle. The action got so boring and standard by the end of the Bayverse because it was always there, always popping up like it was on a timer because the movie as afraid if it didn't scream and flail about it'd lose the audience because it had nothing else to offer. This movie had plenty to offer, because the character interactions were so engaging.

The movie was by no means perfect, but the lack of action was absolutely not a problem it had. It was an asset.

It was literally Optimus' introduction shot in the film.

Those moments got the most reaction in the theatre, especially the TP scene and the scene of Bumblebee in the house.

Because yes, that is what people want to see. People want to see characters with struggles and depth, and scenes where they get into hijinks and shenanigans because it's funny and endearing. But most people, and largely thanks to movies like Transformers, don't really find action that interesting anymore. Hollywood action set pieces are a dime a dozen, just mindless filler to most audiences, but a good story and good characters are a million times harder to create, and becoming more appreciated these days.

This poll needs an option for: The action was amazing and some of the best transformer action we've ever seen but it could have definitely benefited from way more of it.
That said, as some have mentioned here, what was there all felt organic and logical. More action would mean a different narrative, so I guess for what the movie was trying to do, it felt like the right amount for the most part.
