If I were Travis Knight I wouldn't have worried about continuity with the other films. One of the first things Optimus tells the audience in TF2007 is that their search for the Allspark leads them to an unknown planet called Earth, but apparently it wasn't unknown as they've all been here for hundreds of years, except now Bumblebee wasn't here during WWII because he was sent to the planet in the 1980s and it wasn't to look for the Allspark, or fulfill a pact with a human secret society, but to look for a home.

Seriously, continuity is so fragged between the first five movies, I'm not sure including Megatron on Cybertron would make any difference to the general audience.

But that's the problem with the movie, it feels part prequel, part reboot without committing 100% to either.

The timeline of these movies makes no sense. It's the real reason I would prefer if this Bee movie is just a reboot. But without frozen Megatron.

Just say Megatron stays at his base a lot and that's why we didn't see him I never liked Megatron being frozen it just makes him look bad.

If Bee movie is a real prequel well, in that case, doesn't matter who is in charge because the continuity will still be a wreck.

Hmm.... What's the likelihood of Cena's character killing one of the Con's and doing the "U can't C Me" gesture in the film?

Yeah, wasn't a frozen Megatron included in the earliest test screenings? Why not show him in the sector seven base? Why make it seem as if sector seven is just now encountering the NBEs for the first time?

MY current actual hypothesis is that the studio and producers like Lorenzo are still attached to the bay series, they see it as a cash cow and aren't taking the flunk of TLK as an end all be all sign of people giving up on the franchise. I imagine the producers and studio still like it, they feel its safer to try and bring back as much of the old audience as possible, and they're afraid of the taboo of the "reboot." While the actual creative force behind the film like Travis and Christina wanted to make this a new thing rather than just a prequel, so they did the best they could and separated the film as much as possible while still convincing the producers that the film still fit as a prequel.

I do hope that the critical response of this movie, in particular everyone saying this *is* a reboot or an opportunity to restart will get the studio and producers behind the idea.

Also, if the movie does well, they'll probably retroactively call it a reboot, but if the movie fails while having been marketed as a restart, you have the doubly bad image of trying a reboot and failing right out of the gate (i.e. The Mummy). So for now, marketing and pushing the movie, it's probably safer for them to push it as a straight prequel, that way if it fails it's simply tied to the bad image of the other movies.

Maybe John Cena team that encountered Dropkick and Shatter are not Sector Seven? For those who have seen the movie, was it implied they were S-7?

Bayverse killed all my interest in transformers media, and I grew up watching reruns of G1, and early teens watching Beast Wars.

This movie gave me hope again, but if the studio is still stubbornly clinging on to the hot mess that is the Bayverse I'm jumping off again. I guess it's still a question mark until the next movie.

Maybe Travis wanted it, but Christina Hodson had the script written in 2015 I believe

Maybe frozen Megatron was left out of the final movie to preserve the surprise that Megatron was on Earth. It could be the same case with the Allspark being absent.

That's a big problem the Star Wars prequels have, spoiling plot details and surprises from the original trilogy. If you watch the movies in chronological order, they'll ruin the surprise that Vader is Luke's father, the fact that Leia and Luke are siblings. You almost have to watch the Star Wars movies in release order to get an authentic experience. (I hate it when people recommend first time viewers watch the Star Wars movies in chronological order...in my opinion that's a horribly tasteless recommendation.)

They could have still had it in continuity with the other films pretty easily and still kept the Megatron scene. Could have had the prologue set millions of years in the past and have the Autobots shoot the Allspark into space which is why Megatron just opens up and fires upon the Autobots.

Then they could have had the Autobots fleeing Cybertron scene and it just takes millions of years for them to reach Earth.

I dunno, but that could have worked.

Hmm what if.. megatron was discovered in 1897 but it was until after the bumblebee movie that he was brought to sector 7. This is the only way they could put it if they're going for the prequel root. Otherwise its straight up reboot.

One thing i noticed in the bumblebee movie, sector 7 actually referred to Shatter and Dropkick as "non biological".

To me, this is a perfectly reasonable compromise that allows them to go in either direction for the next movie (if there is one).

It's quite feasible that S7 does hold Megatron, but his existence is only known to a handful of people at this time (and not every operative). After all, the general is very reluctant to work with Dropkick and Shatter and his plan is ultimately to have S7 help them catch Bee, obtain Decepticon tech, and then have them all killed which is what anyone who wanted to keep these aliens a secret and a source of new tech would have done. Hell, it's implied that Dropkick and Shatter are responsible for creating the Internet as we know it during this movie.

This interview is glorious! Gosh, I feel like I say this every time I read an interview with Knight but you can just tell that he was a kid who grew up with Transformers and created stories in his head of what these characters were doing and it all just feels so genuine! That's the biggest feeling that I got from the film (Just came back from watching it actually). The movie is genuine and this interview shows that Knight wanted to try to create something that he was passionate about and I applaud him for that! :thumb :thumb :thumb :thumb

So they do not care about Allspark, Matrix, Sentinel Prime, Seed or Merlin\'s staff?
Bayformers are full of useless McGuffin and I am glad Bumblebee has nothing like this.
For me, there are no Bayformers anymore, Travis Knight brings live action movie on level I expected from first movie.

Hey, remember when Megatron was frozen for years on Earth, TF's had already been to ancient Egypt, there were TF's all over the moon including the Ark, and TF's had already been to ancient England? Then they come here by comet randomly. Then Megatron gets turned into Galvatron by his human overlords and then he transforms by basically liquifying. I loved those Marvel books. And all of those rich characters too! I definitely remember that humans were incapable of anything without TF help yet at the same time able to completely overcome TF's easily.

Oh wait, that's all really unoriginal and stupid. But I guess the jokes on us because this movie supports all of those things. We aren't heading anywhere new other than to narrative hell, all the while keeping completely random, wholly inaccurate, ugly robot designs. No matter how much the promoters here and elsewhere want to deny it or try to fog up reality, anyone with any thought knew this was in continuity from the get go. And that's a major, major problem when the stories that come after this are some of the worst of all time.

Still not seeing the movie and this is one of the reasons, I don\'t care if the movie is good, it\'s still canon to the other 5 bad Transformers movies. If they reboot after this then I\'ll watch another live-action Transformers movie.
