A while back I worked on a Lugnut and a Blackout at sorta legends scale with the intent of them fitting in with my Iron Factory bots. In the end they were a bit too big, and I ended up with a bit more of a low poly aesthetic. I love those bots, and so have decided I want to do a whole load of figures of this type

The first Autobot to join the line is Bulkhead!

Just like the Blackout I designed, while animated was the primary design inspiration I tried to mix in details from prime (most obviously in the legs). I also took a little inspiration from a Cyberverse style fan art for him but I can't for the life of me track it down now

When designing bulkhead I started with the arms, I liked the idea of having the wheels visibly fold up into the forarms so I started by modelling them and built out from there. I had tried to make the backpack flaps into semi-shoulder pads to bridge the gap between prime and animated, but I dont know how much that comes across

    IMG_20201008_174136.jpg
    IMG_20201008_174131.jpg IMG_20201008_174107.jpg IMG_20201008_174607.jpg

The transformation scheme is actually very close to how Bulkhead transforms in the animated cartoon. Basically take that and change a few bits instead of having parts warp in size. I think the truck mode looks appropriately armoured and sturdy. The front bumper was meant to look like it could clear mines or something, but I'm now realising it just has a Thanos chin. As you can see by the comparison picture, this vehicle mode is an absolute unit which is something I will touch on shortly

    IMG_20201008_195114.jpg IMG_20201008_195716.jpg IMG_20201008_195519.jpg IMG_20201008_195856.jpg

Style-wise I think he fits in with the others really well, however, Bulkhead is probably like 10-15% too big. It's enough of an issue that, if I make good on my plans and do a load of bots in this style I'll need to reprint him, but for now given he will just sit around on my desk he will do for now.

Months ago I almost finished a Strika, so expect her to be the next figure I do in this style, but I have plans for a Breakdown/Strongarm mould and probably a warpath somewhere down the line

That's a rather cute take on Bulkhead, only thing missing is his wrecking ball and an art set. This is quite creative.

Phenomenal as always! This is a much better classics/retroactive G1 design than just reusing the PRIME design like they have in the past.

    Perfectly big and chunky.
You think an alternate Maccadam head would work for that body?

    Oh snap.

Pretty cool! Gives me more of a Cyberverse vibe though.

COOL! Vehicle mode looks great and fits the IF style. Robot mode looks good for the "retroactive g1". Is there a specific reason for the yellow on the grill?

These are all pretty sweet. I would absolutely buy these as third-party figures

I was actually looking into picking up a voyager animated or a prime first edition bulkhead for this very idea. I just dont think he would be large enough.
